Stop sharing X-box subscription and access with another console

Hi all,

My nephew and his mum were living together with an ex-boyfriend, who threatened them with violence (police involved, restraining order, etc). My nephew and mum have since moved to another house, and we'd like to keep their location private.

My nephew has an Xbox subscription which is shared with the ex-boyfriend. His mother is paying for the subscription.

We're worried because my nephew can see when the ex-boyfriend is online and we're not sure if the ex-boyfriend can see my nephew's online activities. I have a few questions, if you can help it would relieve a lot of stress and worry:

1. Can the ex-boyfriend see where my nephew is physically located? They had to move to a new address, hence the reason for asking.

2. How do I stop sharing my nephew's subscription with the ex-boyfriend? Will the ex-boyfriend lose access to saved games and game progress? Just wanting to understand, as we don't want to provoke him (we just want him gone).

3. Will my nephew lose access to any games or lose his progress if he stops sharing his subscription? His mum is paying for the subscription.

4. How do we ensure that the ex-boyfriend is not able to use his console to access my nephew's account in any way?

Not without using the console itself.

He can however change the password and then select force all devices on his console to sign in

Which will remove the ability to sign in on any console but the home console

Your nephew would be able to roam just has to sign in with the new password

Just one other question - it is possible my nephew previously signed into his account using the ex-boyfriend's console. Is there any way to remove his login details from the ex-boyfriend's console entirely? thanks

Thanks Smwuthces - and jus to confirm, the ex-boyfriend won't loose any of their game progress if we remove his access to the subscription? He can just get his own subscription and carry on playing without losing any game progress or saved games - would that be correct? tks

1. No.

2. Sharing is done through the Home setting. If the subscription is on your nephew's account, he would want to make sure the console he is using is set as his Home console. Setting the console as his Home will remove it from he other console. https://support.xbox.com/en-US/help/hardware-network/console/my-home-xbox

3. If the subscription is on your nephew's account, he won't lose anything since it's tied to his account.

4. If your nephew deleted his account from the old console and the ex doesn't have any of his login information, then he shouldn't be able to access his account at all. If the account is still on the old console, your nephew would want to change his password.
