  1. Stop receiving notifications from non-friends

Not long ago I started clearing out my friends list of people I no longer game with or don't know in real life.

Unfortunately, thanks to the Xbox One's system of following people rather than simply doing the whole friend request thing, I\m still getting "is online" notifications from people I've removed.

I've even tried blocking those I've removed but I still get the "is online" notification.

Obviously I still want to get notifications from those I've kept.

So is there any way of permanently stopping notifications from those I've removed?

I know there's the whole favourites thing, but that's far too long winded to have to go through every friend, make them a favourite and then change notifications to favourites only.

    :)

    Receiving notifications from deleted friends

    Hello Chesca,

Try power cycling (support.xbox.com/.../power-cycle-console) the console and see if this stops these notifications.

You may also want to turn notifications off, power cycle, then turn notifications back on to see if that makes a difference.

Let us know how you get on.

    Hi there,

please try the manual power cycle steps like mentioned on the following link, be sure to wait at least 60 seconds before powering on again:

    http://support.xbox.com/xbox-one/console/power-cycle-console

to see if that resolves the issue

If that fails then try the following steps

    1. Remove profile from the console (Make sure you know the account credentials for the account, since you will need them later)
    2. Perform the manual power cycle steps like mentioned before
    3. Redownload your profile

    Let us know the results

  5. I've followed the second suggestion, as I've power cycled a few times since first noticing these removed people still popping up.

Obviously I'll have to wait to see if this has full prevented the "is online" notifications from those people.

One side note, there is one person who I'm sure I removed before I got my Xbox One, but post X1 launch, who I still get online notifications about.

And as I said above, I was getting those notifications from people I've actually blocked since removing.

The blocking was an attempt to prevent those notifications.

Another thing, I'm still seeing certain blocked people appear in my followers list.

This is what I find the most annoying about the X1 friends system.

Why couldn't have been kept the same as the Xbox360 and simply have friend requests?

At least back then you could remove someone and you wouldn't see them come online once removed.

  6. Hi, try going to settings>preferences>notifications>xbox notifications>new followers and uncheck the boxes to see if that resolves it.

  7. I’ll give this a try, but these aren’t new people.

They’re people I’ve previously added, either since I bought my X1(in early 2014) or older friends since I first got my Xbox360 back in 2006.

I haven’t added anyone new in about a year.

  9. No. Tried it before on Xbox360 and had a bad experience, so I’ve never bothered since.

  10. Ok no problem. Not had too many issues with Insider on the One, just the odd bug.

Keep us posted, if you get it sorted and how, or if you still need help.

  11. Having tried removing my profile, doing a full power cycle and redownloading my profile, it hasn't solved the issue.

Just now, one of the many people I have removed just popped up as being online.

They are no longer on my friends list and haven't been for well over a year, but still they pop up whenever they come online.

This is getting really annoying now, as blocking doesn't do a thing.

I cut my friends list down as I don't play online with many people, and therefore don't want constant notifications when someone I played with and added 12 years ago, but haven't played anything with them in 10 years, comes online.

Again, the Xbox One friends system is broken and backwards.

It shouldn't have been changed from the Xbox360, and it certainly shouldn't allow someone to follow/friend you without you confirming it.

I'm having this same issue, and it's really annoying. Deleting and blocking the gamer profile doesn't work, nor does doing a hard reset/full power cycle, nor does deleting your gamertag from your system and then signing back in. It has to be a Microsoft
issue. I am in the Preview Program, and "LostSoul 301281" isn't, so I guess it has nothing to do with that. Either way, I'm sick of getting these alerts for players I don't play with, and I wish I could stop it from happening.

By the way LostSoul, I agree with you about the friends system. I wish being friends was a mutual choice between both parties how it was years ago. I don't like the anybody can follow you without your approval. Maybe an option to allow that separately
if your a popular streamer and you want to allow followers, but not the same perks that come with being friends with another player. I wish Microsoft would fix this. We can't even get a hold of them to try anymore. Their customer service is super difficult
to reach at this point. So annoying when you pay $70 a year for their service and you can't even talk to somebody to get this fixed. They made it so hard to talk to a real person. You have to jump through too many hoops to figure it out.
