Microsoft changing something in an update is what compelled the OP to post. lol It just wasn't, in his case, a change to make the experience better. I'd be interested to see what changes free up what kind of system resources. Because if not having gestures
speeds everything else up then yeah, I can see why it was dropped.

But more likely, gestures [and the context menu for snapping apps I mentioned] were just never built into the new experience because of time constraints. I suspect because they had to roll it out a specific scheduled time, that they announced. The new UI!
Instead of y'know, building the thing as close to completion as possible, then announcing it, and then rolling it out to consumers.

If I can access my achievements faster on 360 than I can on Xbox One, for me, that's not a step forward. If the NXOE makes snapping stuff slower than the previous UI - without Kinect - again, not exactly forward progress... heh ha.

S'not a huge deal for me, because I ignore a lot of the dashboard experience and just fire up recently closed games, or hit right trigger and pick a pin. But if existing features can't be jammed into a "new experience", before a certain, announced date that
click-bait sites and national papers can advertise...

... then maybe in future don't announce dates or roll out previews until you've got the new experience [which to me should mean existing features + more features] done and dusted, and worthy of the title 'upgrade/update'. {=)

Down-date... up-down-grade. Update + throwing stuff overboard. Or sumthin' tss tss.

You have an extremely strange definition of words like "want" and "demand"... I want lots of things in this life. That doesn't mean that I'm demanding them. Just because the guy was rather casual in his posting doesn't mean he was demanding anything. I'm
sure he thought he was speaking with rational, like-minded individuals and didn't expect rabid fanboys to jump on him and pick apart every word of his post.

I totally don't mind them focusing on social media. I trust Microsoft (and google) over how they handle your personal info. If Facebook was owned by Microsoft, I'd get it in an instant. Many of my friends gasp why I don't have Facebook.

I watched a YouTube video by bogyman that big guy about how some big Youtubers or celebs or just normal people may choose to disband from social media. Either companies are not good at handling personal info, or cuz there's hate going around, and that it
can isolate your from family and it's better to meet people in real life. There was another Youtube video titled "Look Up". Whenever I contact Xbox Support, I get a good experience. And after contacting them they send an email form for feedback which helps
them on areas to improve. I actually contacted them when someone put up derogatory flash images on this forum, they inspected it, and they said thanks we'll get right onto that.

But other than that, I'm happy enough with the social features on Xbox Live. Thank goodness Skype is owned by Microsoft and not some dodgy or not well known company. 2 years ago, the registration page for Facebook wasn't even secure or encrypted. When you
sign in to your account or visit certain pages on this website, the address bar is highlighted green with a padlock. Xbox tech may be weaker than the competition or not the best, but it's what they provide in the service which keeps millions using Xbox.

Not sure you understand what demanding is... You know if your precious company you work fot free for would have just made it clear the gestures were taken away with the update I wouldn't have thought my console wasnt working. I don't use this forum often

They don't call it Xbox Live for nothing. It's good to have friends and be able to play with them and communicate with them in multiple ways. Many people have built thriving relationships and social experiences on Xbox Live. Microsoft acquired Skype and
Minecraft probably because millions play Minecraft and video chat can be fun especially to visually meet people from around the world. Voice Messaging was the highest demand with thousands of votes for it on the official Xbox feedback site when Xbox 1 didn't
have the feature. Xbox is for ALL ages, not just oldies. Kinect, txt/voice (picture messaging Xbox 360 feature), game chat, party chat, and playing with others who live near and far from you. It's more fun spending your free time with others rather than ALONE.

As for Xbox 1's current UI, which is Windows 10 based, it's the fastest UI they've made for Xbox 1. I remember what the UI was like at Xbox 1's Launch, that Windows 8 based slow UI. Many people I think would like your console to talk back to it. Microsoft
allows this with Windows 10's Cortana digital personal assistant. After all, Google and Apple phones talk back to you. It's fun. Besides, its great having an electronic device which can do more than ONE thing. Xbox should be a broader experience and I think
it's a great hobby. Play games, socialize with others, watch videos, etc. I wouldn't be surprised if they acquired Facebook or YouTube next.

It pays to go for the 12 month Gold subscriptions, it's cheaper than going for the 1 month Gold subscriptions or 3 months. Pay it once, and you're covered for a long 12 months. Xbox Live Gold is also fairly priced too compared to your electricity or phone/internet
bills. Microsoft needs some money to help sustain it's service and that's why you pay for Gold. Sony has introduced this too on the PSN. But Xbox does provide sort of 'thanks for being a Gold member' through games with gold monthly deals on Xbox 360 and Xbox
1. Although they may not be the kind of games you want, it's the thought that counts. I even get Happy Birthday emails from Microsoft too. They listen or at least take into account your feedback. As evidence, Xbox 1 know has a lot of Xbox 360 features now,
which it missed at Launch, like change dash background, battery indicator, external HDD support, voice messaging, etc.
