Still can't use 5.1 or 7.1 through HDMI and it's unacceptable

So as since day one we still can't use 5.1 or 7.1 through the HDMI port. This is ridiculous that this has not been taken care of in almost 4 years, we all have paid for a broken product that Microsoft doesn't even recognize as a glitch. I for one have about
had it with Microsoft's inability to make a stable working gaming system, how are you going to ignore something as major as surround sound not working. I should not have to have a dedicated optical cable going to my receiver to get it to work. I now have to
rig my stuff together to get it to work and move stuff around any time I want to use something other than my Xbox because they can't make a product that actually works. I guess what I'm saying is no wonder everyone is slowly going to PlayStation...

    :)

Optical Out - What is it for??

KIds that use monitors still have audio via HDMI. Using HDMI does not have to equate to 7.1 or 5.1.

    Surround Sound not completely working

An optical cable simply can't pass 5.1/7.1 uncompressed, only HDMI or multichannel analog can (the latter of which the Xbox doesn't have). As such your headset (presumably optical) does NOT and cannot support 5.1/7.1 uncompressed. Instead it supports 5.1
Dolby Digital (DD=compressed), and virtually creates 7.1 from the 5.1 through processing (optical can't pass 7.1 DD+ either, only 5.1). Currently, the Xbox One cannot output Dolby Digital 5.1 over optical, which is why you do not get surround sound in your
headset. It is also not surprising that your TV is not handling 5.1/7.1 uncompressed properly, as that is something you really need an audio receiver to handle. What is probably happening is your TV is downmixing the uncompressed 5.1/7.1 to some sort of stereo
(2.1?), resulting is loss of some audio channels. The rest you hear as"virtual surround sound" created by your LG system.

The solution for you is to get a proper audio/video receiver (recommend Onkyo or Denon) that has HDMI inputs, can handle uncompressed 5.1/7.1, etc.; OR wait until the One can output DD 5.1 over optical, When the latter happens, keep in mind that most TVs
will NOT pass DD 5.1 out over optical. Perhaps yours does (some Vizio models do). If yours doesn't, you will never get true DD 5.1 (just because you hear sound from all speakers doesn't mean you are getting true DD 5.1) from your current setup and would need
to run the optical out directly to your LG system, instead of through the TV. Hope that helps.

    Surround sound has been fixed?

Mine still changes from DTS 5.1 (or uncompressed 5.1) to Uncompressed 7.1 all by itself.

When I had the TV box connected via HDMI it used to change itself to Stereo.

    HDMI HAS POOR PICTURE QUALITY

    True story! Thanks MetaWorldschizO!

BusGod, 5.1 and 7.1 is not supported through HDMI, it is by S/PDIF. However, that is not what was said... What was said was: "I also am very disappointed that there is no 5.1 Dolby support on the optical out" which is simply incorrect... it is supported
and it does work. By what you said: Is S/PDIF not working or is HDMI not working? Most likely it is a setting within the AVR or Settings > TV and Cable > change HDMI to 5.1/ 7.1. Let me know -Cheers

There is a huge thread Hybrid Alien linked. Other then that, What type of TV? What type of hookups? HDMI all the way through to a TV? Using a Soundbar? Stereo? PCM 5.1 or 7.1? Have a receiver?
