The stick heads don't detach from the sticks. The convex/domed stick heads look to be on std sized sticks.

The analog sticks; LS = Left Stick, RS = Right Stick.

the right stick sometimes has a function in some apps. for example; the left stick might scroll the screen/page and the right stick might move the cursor around the screen/page, or the left stick is used to select items on the screen and the right stick
scrolls the selected text

The cheapest MadCatz stick you can get at the moment is a WWE Brawl Stick for around £50, SFIV Standard Edition sticks are damn near impossible to get a hold of and you will be very lucky to find a SFVI Tournament Edition stick for less than £150. The shortage
of sticks seems to be getting worse as many Hori sticks are going up in price. Although, keep an eye on QanBa though, an up and coming Chinese stick manufacturer that is rapidly gaining in popularity.
