    Stick drift

This will be my 4th pad now that I have had either the right or left stick drift problem.

Some pads last 6months. One pad lasted a year. my most recent pad lasted just 4 months before the right stick drifts so bad that it ruins gameplay.

My brother has in the past fixed one of my pads by opening it up and changing the little white box that reads the sticks position. This is the faulty part on
    ALL xbox one pads.

The fix.....he un-soldered the part, purchased a new part that, if I remember rightly, was 0.01p more expensive than the low grade part that Microsoft use and guess what......my pad has not had one problem since. He repaired it nearly two years ago now.

Why are they failing? Because Microsoft are using the cheapest of the cheap parts for this component of the pad. Arguably one of the most important aspects of any control pad. We, the consumer, pay a premium for control pads. £45 - £60 depending where you
shop, and you (Microsoft) have the cheek to use sub par parts, knowing full well that they will fail and that we (the consumer) will have to pay for another pad. I could have purchased a new xbox one with the money I have had to waste on replacement pads.

They even use these same, sub standard components in the Elite Pad.....A £120 pad!!!! Absolute pirates!

Scuff do not use these parts....madcatz do not either.....I have a budget 3rd party pad that, ok doesn't feel as nice as official pad, but I have had no problems with it at all after nearly a year.

How can they get the 360 pad so right and then, for the sake of a few ££, fail so hard on the xbox one pads??? I still have my original 360 pad and yes the rubber around the sticks has worn away to nothing....that can be expected after over a decade of daily
use......but it has no issue at all.

This is obviously a known fault to Microsoft....so why has it not been addressed and more worryingly....why has it not been rectified????

    :)

Xbox One Controller, left stick faulting!!!

I have two controllers BOTH with drift issues. The one left thumb-stick drifts upwards and the other one has a right thumb-stick drift issue that drifts upward.

Like what the heck am I suppose to do. #SMH

    Stick Drift

So I spent $150 on an elite controller and within a few months I had terrible stick drift, I didn't buy a warranty because I thought that a $150 controller wouldn't break within the first few months. Terrible quality. Is there a way to fix this without buying
    a new controller?

    Stick drift

Bought an Xbox Elite controller and soon enough had stick drift. Sat as a paper weight for a while as I was too nervous to pull it apart. Watched a few vids on the net and here is my result..... Yes I fixed it....

So the green housing that holds the sensor on the joystick modules needs to have a certain amount of pressure when connected to the metal housing. Replacing the sensor certainly works if there is damage to the sensor, however on mine,
    the sensor was fine.

I removed the grey pressure clip as told in the vids, and this worked temporarily, then the drift came back. Trying to reposition the grey clip was in short unsuccessful and resulted in a wobbly grey clip and stick drift...

Sweet!!! Just thought I had completely ruined the controller and started to contemplate buying the hot iron for micro welding when it clicked...... Perhaps the if grey clip maintains the pressure then the green housing must do the same
and need consistent pressure to work with such slight variable electrical resistance (IE joystick movement)??

    Solution....

Wording - as you hold the controller as normal, and look at the joystick module, front is at the top, with no housings, or pressure clips. Left is the grey clip, right and back are the sensor housings.

Grab some medum/fine wire (like fuse wire) that can be twisted with hand pressure and can maintain the integrity of the twist. I suppose a zip lock tie would also suffice however I have not needed to try that.

Loop the wire around twice on the outside of the joystick module, and begin twisting on the front side on the module. As the pressure grows to the correct pressure, begin to move the wire up on down the module to where the pressure
    is required.

For me, I had forward drift, so I needed the pressure lower to the board on the right/front side of the module as you look at it.

Don't be concerned about the protruding plastic parts when the joystick is moved, as the pressure will most likely be needed near the top of the module or at the base from what I can tell.

Twist, test, snip the wire so you can reassemble.

Also to note - don't over tension the wire. I noticed that as I tensioned the wire, the ability to press down on the joystick (IE to run in some games) became increasingly hard. Not to worry as I can map a paddle for that if needed,
however if using a normal Xbox controller, this will need to be tested as you increase the tension.

Let me know how you go

  5. Ouch you've had some bad luck. I've not had that issue at all. Mine has always been the audio jack plug failing. But never had stick drift. Maybe you apply a lot of pressure when you play?

Controller Firmware Update - Messed up my controller?!?

That's called stick drift and has nothing to do with this firmware issue. Your controller is broken, you can have Microsoft fix it for a fee or replace it. But no software update will fix stick drift.

Why does a standard Xbox controller not have stick deadzone configuration?

Deadzones aren't really intended to fix stick drift. Stick drift is a fault that needs repairing.

And the customisation is another reason to buy the Elite. They need to make it different from the standard controller.
