Stereo Headset Not Transmitting Sound

I am using an Xbox stereo headset, and while playing with some friends yesterday I discovered that they were unable to hear me. I checked the Xbox Live party and noticed that the circle around my picture was not lighting up when I talked, so the microphone
was not picking up my voice or any other noises. I have hard resetting my Xbox and my controller does not need any updates. I am still able to hear chat and game audio, but I cannot talk through my stereo headset. Please give me some advice on what to do or
if my headset may be broken.

Xbox One headset WITH Surround Sound

Ok. I have the Tritton 720+ headset. I get sound through the headset if I set the optical output on the Xbox One to "Stereo", but if I set it to "surround" there is no sound from the headset at all.

Obviously, Stereo is not my first choice for multiplayer fps games. Are there any headsets that work RIGHT NOW with Xbox One surround sound.

My buddy was under the impression that even though it's set to stereo, that his set was still converting to surround sound. That is not possible as the Xbox is not transmitting that surround sound data to the tritton headset box.

 

Xbox one headset / headphones

Some of headsets are stereo only (left and right audio only) the PX4 TB I purchased is Dolby digital 5.1 surround sound. So you connect optical out from XB1 to the Dolby surround receiver (included with PX4) which transmits wirelessly the 5.1 surround sound to the headset. The headset has tone selection to adjust the sound placement inside the speakers . This is great because in games like COD for example, you can hear someone walking up behind you and the sound comes from behind you. With a stereo headset all sounds are mixed into left or right so won't be as clear as to where the sound is coming from.

I do not believe so, but I would not know how to find out if I had. I am fairly sure that I have not.
