  1. Stereo Headset for Xbox One

Since the Xbox One will now connect via the new interface with the controller and most importantly the Xbox will be handling the processing of the audio information and sending it via Wifi-Direct, I plan to get a new headset. I was never happy with the Xbox
360 headsets that claimed "surround sound." I always found the audio quality to be sub-par when compared to my actual surround system, but I will need a headset for later night gaming, so I'm posting on these forums fore some advice. I pre-ordered the TitanFall
bundle, so I will be getting my system this Tuesday, and I would like a new headset as soon as possible.

Since the Xbox One will be doing the audio processing now as supposed to an external module that used to be required with other headers such as TurtleBeach's headsets, will MSFT's stereo headset be as good as the TurtleBeach XO4/XO7?

Are there any other honorable mentions?

    What say you?

    Thanks!

    :)

    ZigzagLemonHaze,

I can understand your frustration with all the bad luck you have been having. And, for the record, I am not part of the Microsoft staff nor an Xbox customer support employee. But, I can say that we have 2 Xbox Ones and 1 Xbox One S, and 2 of the

    Xbox One Stereo Headsets
. And, both headsets work well, with and without the
    Stereo Headset Adapters
    , on all our Xboxes.

They will all probably be around the same since they will all be getting their audio from the controller. Right now that is going to be stereo only. Surround mixing might be implemented in the future for them but all audio through the controller is stereo
since the main focus was on high quality stereo. Sure some reviews will start showing up now that the latest console update is out which was needed since the controller needed a firmware update to work properly with the headset adapter.

Since the latest march update supporting Dolby Digital 5.1 plus the headset adapter my Astro A50s have been amazing. Best wireless headphones I have used and quality is really great especially compared to what comes out of the adapter. I have plugged a couple
sets of headphones and some ear buds into the adapter to test out the sound quality. I wouldn't want to game with the audio you get through the controller, but wouldn't mind using it for Netflix or Youtube. Might sound better on the headsets made for the adapter
though. Like I said look for some reviews.

Still use my AXPros for my 360,PS3 which I love for gaming and movies when I can't use my surround, but haven't tried them out on my One since the march update.

  5. I think that until simulated surround is not only incorporated in to the system, but also the ability to tweak that simulated surround is available, I don't see how the current Turtle Beach or Polk headsets for the Xbox One will be any better than MSFT's
stereo headset. I haven;t found any information on the quality of the drivers in comparison to one another. Only the sizes of the drivers are listed, so I think I will go with MSFT's set for now until a true matrix surround set is available that will be justified
by a greater price than MSFT's set. Until then, I haven't found any justification for TurtleBeach's XO7 or Polk's set, which are nearly double the price of MSFT's set.

I have a pair of the TB XO Fours running at 99.99 and I have been really pleased with them with both in game sound and voice chat. They are not much more expensive then the MSFT headset. I have a full video review of them on my gamer tags upload channel.
    Hope this helps.

  7. Does the Microsoft Headset allow mic monitoring? I bought the TB XO7s and there is no mic monitoring. It drives me crazy not being able to hear myself speak.

The Xbox Stereo Headset doesn't allow talkback like the Turtle Beach headsets do. Really hope this is a software fix.

  9. I'm looking into getting a headset for my X1 and since the controller only outputs stereo does anyone know if there is a difference in sound quality with the MS headset vs the TB X07's and Polk 4Shots? or enough of a difference to justify the $80 difference
when you compare them to the MS stereo headsets?

  10. The voice monitoring is a buzzkill to be honest, my headphones isolates noise hence I think I end up speaking into the mic way louder than needed.. Hoping for a software update that adds this. The boxed in mono headset has this, one would imagine it would
also come as stock with the adapter. But no.

    Xbox one App

•Some third-party products come with a stereo headset adapter that may look different from the Xbox One Stereo Headset Adapter made by Microsoft, but they all function the same way.

•You can only connect an Xbox 360 Chat Headset using the stereo headset adapter with a 2.5-mm to 3.5-mm converter, which comes with the Xbox One Stereo Headset Adapter. The Xbox One Stereo Headset does not include this adapter cable.

Xbox One S and Official Stereo Headset Adapter not recognized

    Hi Zathrus,

    We have two of the
    Xbox Stereo Headset
with Xbox One Stereo Headset Adapter, and both sets have worked well with no problems for sometime now. And I have used the
adapter with non-Microsoft headset with no issues. So, given that you say your "3.5 mm cabled headset " works directly connected to the controller, then I regret to say it would seem that the fault lies with the adapter itself and may need to be replace.

Recommendation needed for Xbox One X headphones

I would recommend the official Xbox brand stereo headset as it claims to be compatible with all xbox one wireless controllers:

    https://www.xbox.com/xbox-one/accessories/headsets/stereo-headset

It probably doesn't need the stereo headset adapter - but if you're going to buy this headset, better just buy the stereo headset adapter to get your other headsets, that you already own, to work properly
