Stereo headset adapter no longer working - stuck on mute

Just in the past week I have found my stereo headset adapter has just been stuck on mute, and wont unmute.

It has been working for months up to this point, which is strange.

I tried updating the firmware on the controller, but my Xbox One tells me the controller is up to date.

The headset that comes with the Xbox works fine.

Do I need to get this adapter replaced? I am not sure if I still have the receipt for it when I originally purchased it.

my Xbox one stereo headset adapter is stuck on mute I push the button and it doesn't work I try to update the controller it says it doesn't need to be updated please help me I don't know what to do I tried restarting my Xbox I did nothing I put the stereo
headset adapter and another controller and it just won't work it's stuck on mute and I can't Fix it help

 

Have you tried unplugging the adapter from the controller for any length of time? For example, at least 30 minutes.

 

Deccman, this is my exact problem as well. My x1 is brand new (bought it tonight) and the cheap mic works just fine. The stereo adapter is stuck on mute.

Does the adapter need to be replaced?

 

Deccman & Slay D, I also just got my x1 tonight (AW bundle). The stereo adapter is stuck on mute, the standard mic that comes with the xbox works without a problem.

hardware issue?

 

Anyone have any suggestions on this issue, my *** mic is still on mute

I had the same problem. I connected the controller again to the XBox One and i did an update although the Xbox One said the wasn't a new update available. After the update I restarted the Xbox and I can use the stero adapter again.

I am having the same problem. Each time I try to update a controller, it fails. My controllers have the 1.1.2228.0 firmware. Can anyone confirm that this is the latest?

I even pulled 2 brand new controllers out of the box and flashed them to the same firmware version. Same problem. Interestingly enough, I just bought it on sale just yesterday as well.

 

UPDATE: After fussing around with the inability to update my controller, here is what I did to make the headset work (I moved my external HD to one of the back USB ports):

I changed my USB cable out with another one (not sure if it was an issue)

I used the side USB port - not one from the back (I think this is the real problem): My update to the controller always failed. Nothing would work even though it looks like I have the latest firmware.

I re-flashed my controller - it succeeded this time and the headset now works on all controllers.

I think the adapter needed the re-flash as I only had to update one controller and the headset adapter ceased to be stuck on mute.

I know this is a few years late, but from what I have read everywhere what worked for me has not been said yet when everything else did not work.After trying the resetting of the controller and Xbox, updating the controller, plugging the adapter in and out,
and all those other things.

What worked for me was plugging the headset I was trying to use into my controller, then letting it turn on the headset until sounds comes out. After it is on unplug the headset then plug in the adapter. The mute light should be off and it should work again
until the controller is turned off. Once the controller turns off these steps have to repeated.
