Steering wheels, xbox one, Forza 5, and lost loyalty.

I'm an older "adult" gamer, gamer since youth, and car enthusiast. With a few 911s under my belt and a fair amount of track time. Forza 4 was like a godsend of tire/fuel saving practice. I spent many hours on Forza 4, even designed a digital version of my
actual 1972 911T RS/R/ST tribute car down to the feel.

Forza 5 looks great ... have not touched it yet ... bought it and wish I didn't ... have not purchased any DLC and will not touch it until something better than Thrustamster and Madcatz comes along. My entire Fanatec rig is pretty much SOL. Microshaft has
just given me zero brand loyalty to look forward to. Yes, this is old news, but I had hoped Microsoft would "man up" in the last few months. I won't be spending 500-1000$ on peripherals for a microsoft console again ... peripheral makers take note. If you'll
be adding a pricey VR headset or occulus competitor in the near future, you might want to consider how much you're pissing off people who spend cash on peripherals, and who might be aware that Sony behaves differently. To loosely quote a recent Forbes article
on console wars, I don't think Microsoft could have done more and poorer decisions in the presentation of the xbox one to *** off its customer base and destroy what loyalty they had. More of the same I guess. Boy did they backpedal in the early launching of
the new console. The PS3 and 360 sold roughly 80 million units by their end of cycles, currently, the xbox one is significantly behind the PS4, can you really afford such behaviour ?

It's great to add new technologies, but some support of previous peripherals would have been appropriate, especially pricey ones branded for the xbox. I got at least 5 guys from Porsche clubs to purchase full Fanatec + Forza 4 + 360 sets just to practice
when we were planning a Nürburgring trip, a couple of them bought 2 units each to race their kids. When they ask me when they should buy the new Forza 5 + xbone, the answer is always "never," for which their teenage sons hate me. When they've asked about the
new Madcatz and Thrustmaster ... same answer, never. I'm willing to bet for 50% of the Fanatec kit purchasers, peripherals for the xbox will never be on their list again. I have no desire to waste my time setting up a new system, re ordering, etc ... Have
since re-installed the 360 in a spare room ... how bad does a new technology have to be to make you go backwards ? well, how many of you PC users were still using widows XP until lately. More of the same I guess.

If independent companies have been able to code dongles to use 360 controllers on the xbone, I can't really be expected to believe that Microsoft did not make a conscious decision to lock out xbox 360 peripherals. If Microsoft employees are reading, you're
more than welcome to compare my use of Forza 4 and the 360 at large in the last 3-4 years, vs my use of the xbone in the last 6 months ... it has become the wife's "fitness" trainer more than anything. Discount any use of Assassin's Creed, my brother works
on that title and I always play it for discussion.

Fanatec wheel and Forza 5

Was a bad idea sell Forza 5 with xbox one if they steering wheels will not work, because you need to buy a new steering wheel with a new game and with a new console... to much money.

I want to get Forza 5 but only with a steering wheel. The only steering wheel I could see coming for the XBONE is that ferrari one, which costs 399.99, wtf? That steering wheel costs as much as a PS4. Id rather just buy a PS4 so then I could have both,
no way in heck I'm going to spend 4 hundy on a steering wheel.

Anyone know of a less expensive steering wheel accessory being released? Im sure that 400$ steering wheel is awesome but.....no.

 

I use a controller - that makes me happy. I'm sorry to hear that you aren't. Also, nobody of any official MS capacity reads or replies to messages on these forums.

 

Fanatec rigs are using an 8 year old 360 wireless standard which is fairly inaccurate. Forza 5 runs some crazy simulations (even taking into account track temperature) and so needs the closest thing to super accurate input it can get. The Xbox One controller
or wheels both use the same standard and so are the best choices.
