Stealing power armor and keeping it.

I read that you can steal the fusion cores out of BOS soldiers (or anyone really) that is wearing power armor, which makes them exit the armor and allows you to claim it. I can verify that this is true, as I now have 8 suits of T-60 that I 'liberated' from
BOS Paladins. The trick is not get caught stealing the core or armor, but that is kind of obvious.

What isn't obvious is that these BOS members will attempt to take the armor back if they are still alive. I was keeping these purloined beauties in Starlight, as I plan to make a gigantic and ridiculous display area for these. When fast-traveling back
from the Cambridge Police Station with my 9th suit, I found that the Paladins that I had stolen the armor from had spawned in Starlight and were walking off with "my" armor. They must have carried fusion cores with them, as those suits had had their cores
removed. This happened almost every time I came back to Starlight, some BOS member was restealing 'my' armor! I had to follow them up the road and try and steal it again.

I found a solution though: Take the armor and place it on a ledge, and face it inward. In effect, when you exit the armor, you should fall off the edge. I did this on the roof over the entrance, and it seems to work. The Paladins still spawn in, but
they drop immediately to the ground level, and then start walking back to... well, I'm not sure where they are going. The AI is not smart enough to have them walk up the stairs to claim their suit. An even better tip is to then follow these guys and make
sure they die. Yes, watch them get killed by beasts, and do not help. Once the "owner" is dead, problem solved.

i love the classic enclave helmet, it looks like a vulture or something. and the body is pretty sweet too, love the heavy and blocky feel of it with the back fan and all that jazz. i never got around to keeping arcade in the group long enough to do his quest
and get the enclave power armor, but if i did and if i used power armor, i would definitely wear that armor.

 

dog tags and lobby question

So how does one goes in keeping an enemy dog tag after stealing one?

 

Interesting. Found raider power armor that shows up as "stolen". I was wondering around and found a raider compound, and believe I killed him before he got into the suit. Liberated it and put it in Sanctuary. This was the last time I played; now I'm thinking
he might re-spawn, take back his armor, and wipe out Sanctuary.

If you have one suit of T-60, why do you need more? Just wondering. maybe you are a hoarder?

I'm just collecting one of each. I have everything but the X-01.

I have about 15 sets now I have found. 3 X-01s but 2 are still missing one leg and one helmet. Not sure why I have that many, just like the look of them in my house. For the life of me I don't know why you would ever need to steal a set.

 

For me it was just opportunity; seen a full set of modified raider power armor and took it! Lol.

Well I have taken it off of people I killed but to me thats just looting the body, not stealing.

 

@fyerball 72, you can take the whole suit off the body and get into it? I've only been able to take the pieces (Not the frame.). Killed raiders in power armor and I can take their pieces, though need a frame to put them on. This particular was just sitting
in a raider compound; popped a fusion core in and away I went. Shows up as stolen.

Sorry my bad lol..... no. That's what I meant above (pieces). I have never found a way to get them out of the frame. I wish you could because I have had to buy a couple.

 

Armor from Raiders, fair won in combat, will still show as stolen. It is a bug that needs to be fixed.

To answer a previous question, the Raider never seems to respawn, just the BoS Knights. I eventually got tired of this, and set the suits standing well away from Starlight. Seemed to have worked.

For another question, about why? Oh, come on! Do you have to ask that question? For an example of why I wanted them all, check my activity feed. Starlight looks like a power armor showroom now! 36 suits and counting!

Not sure if this has been mentioned, but a complete set of X-01 resides at the top of an unmarked location called 35 Court, west of Boston Commons. Might want to bring some heavy ordinance, it is guarded by a Legendary Assaultron and a Sentry Bot.

 

ok confession time. For the first several hours of the game I was running around in a bare frame because I didn't know I had to attach armor to it. I was thinking...wow this is some ugly armor. Oh well, time to fight a deathclaw.

 

Bizarro, that is funny! Especially considering that bare frames have no defensive value, and any armor worn underneath isn't counted... you were basically fighting a giant lizard with swords for hands in your underwear. Bet that didn't work out well.....

 

I wondered why I went down for the count so fast. I was like wow, this ugly power armor sucks.
