Static/Snowy screen when streaming on Series X

Hello all,

I’ve recently had an issue with a static or “snowy” screen that pops up randomly while streaming content on my series X. I’m using a new tv, an LG C1 48”. I have the console set to 120hz for gaming and 4K UHD. Allow 50hz, allow 24hz, allow low-latency mode, allow YCC 4:2:2, allow 4K, allow HDR10, auto HDR and allow Dolby Vision are all on. Allow variable refresh rate is not on and unable to be turned on, I assume because of the tv setup and Dolby vision for gaming is not on. Let me start by saying that the static screen only occurs while streaming content. Specifically it’s happened with YouTube tv and peacock. I’ve never had an issue with gaming. I’ve also never had an issue on another tv. I have not ruled out an issue with the HDMI cable or the tv itself but I find it to be unlikely given that it only happens while streaming. I’m also using the HDMI high speed cable the console shipped with. I’ve read other articles of people having the same issue and the consensus is that it maybe has something to do with refresh rate or other settings. Microsoft support has been useless as they have no answers and just want me to perform a factory reset. I’ve seen posts saying that turning the 60hz setting on instead of 120hz fixes the issue but I want 120 on for gaming. I’ve also read that streaming doesn’t support 120hz and also had an issue at one point where peacock wouldn’t work at all while the console was set to 120hz, that has since been resolved. Any information on this issue would be greatly appreciated. I will also leave a link to a Microsoft community article that somewhat describes the issue under the bullet point “4K/120hz”. Hi there bgranz10 welcome to the community forum! Christopher here, an Xbox fan just like you and has been on Xbox for years already. I would really love to make your day by helping you out. Just disconnected my external hard drive and the issue seems to be resolved. Not sure what's going on but thought I would share for anyone else having the same issues.

You know the little short video that plays on an xbox one x before the xbox green screen logo? Thats when its static/snowy. Then it shows the normal xbox logo. When trying to use any video streaming app is when all i see is green screen with audio.

I tried what you suggested, it went to 680x680 like you said but it only dispayed the static/snowy screen in lower quality and still experienced the green screen with audio only on netflix and hulu.

Hey there, Pema! We are currently still investigating the black screen flashes. The snowy/static screen and HDCP errors were the ones resolved recently. Please keep an eye on that thread for updates on the black screen flashes!

Maybe HDMI cable got broken in transport?

That's odd behavior. First try a powercycle of the console by holding the power button on it for 10 seconds till it shuts down to see if that helps. If it does not then you may need to try a factory reset on the console. There's an option to keep installed
games and apps and your saves will be safe on the Cloud.

Please note that a factory reset requires internet access.
