Static noise coming from controller

That might pose a problem. Do you know if the console was brand new or used? If it was brand new the seller should be able to take a return or you could send it in for a warranty repair.

If it was used then that poses a whole different kettle of fish as you would not be able to take advantage of a warranty (they do not transfer). Your only option there would be to return it to the seller.

clicks and crackles are signs of Hard Drive failure, I would do as Onyx62is says and take anything important off it and try return it ASAP, my console does make a very faint crackle because thats the sound a SATA drive makes when its reading/writing data
but what you're describing is pretty alarming.

Oh ok, my crackling/popping sound only happens when I play a game or browse the home screen when I move from box to box. My Day One edition never had this problem. I wonder if it's the external hard drive I have the games on. It's USB 3.0 though and 2
TB. Only using 1tb.

I really think my issue has to be software related.

I am also having this issue on the new 1tb console that came out 2 weeks ago. I wonder if this is a bug because my Day One console does not have this issue.
