Static IP address....yes or no?!

Hello, I've been having a lot of trouble staying connected online to play games lately. More specifically playing Destiny. I have read so much the last week or so it's unreal, and I cannot remember it all for he life of me. I do remember reading something
about static IP, but cannot remember if i should make mine static or not? Any info on whether a static IP address is the way to go or not would be very helpful!!! Thank you!!

Xbox One WiFi problem

If you have a router, give the xbox one a static IP address, make sure it's 'doled' out by it's MAC address.

Do that and if it's still giving you problems like that, toss that static IP on a DMZ.Click to expand...

I have a router but I have no idea about how to assign a static IP address. Do you do it through the router or through the Xbox One?

The vast majority of Xbox users don't need to assigned their console with a fixed IP address, as to where the router can forward Xbox traffic, based on the router's settings for Port Forwarding/Virtual Server/Port Triggering, or DMZ.

To have a better understanding of your situation, please read:
forums.xbox.com/.../1987611.aspx and post back in full detail (the bits in bold) along with any error code you are getting and any troubleshooting steps you have taken so far (to no avail).

@Infamous- yes the Nighthawk R7000 support static (resevered) ip addresses.

A static IP address is not necessarily the same thing as a public IP address. However, a static IP address can be public and a public IP address can be static.

What it sounds like to me is the apartment complex is going to give you a static private IP address on their network where they can do configuration on your address to allow gaming from that IP address on their network.

Yes, you can manually input your Ip address, and static ip into your xbox 360 console, under system settings, network..

There are tutorials on how to find your Ip address, and static adress's via google, or youtube, then when you have found them, try it, by typing in the Ip and static in the console, and test connection, if it's still working, report back, i'll be willing
to assist you in further detail.

Yes but it says on the page you linked to set up the port forwarding I need a static IP first

To setup port forwarding on this router your computer needs to have a static ip address.
