Start Xbox One without HDMI connected for streaming only (headless)

So I want to use an Xbox one for streaming only, so not connected to any TV or monitor. But when there is no HDMI cable connected, the console does not start. Is there any way around this? I just want the console to start when there is nothing connected.
There doesn't seem to be any setting, perhaps some kind of dummy HDMI cable?

Can you stream from Satellite Receivers HDMI to Xbox App?

Hi,

I'm planning to buy an Xbox One S, but it really depends on the answer to this question.

Is it possible to connect a Satellite Receiver's HDMI output to Xbox One S HDMI input and stream the channels (Free-to-air ones) using the Xbox App to a Windows laptop?

On Xbox One's support pages only games and TV are mentioned as supported for streaming.

I thought it should work with any device connected via HDMI, but I have read somewhere (Howto Geek) that this support was removed for Satellite receivers a while ago, is that right?

 

Question regarding TV services

Will the Xbox One allow me to stream my U-Verse programming via a wireless connection, or will it require an HDMI in from the U-Verse cable box? I ask this because the ESPN app allows it to run from my U-Verse account without a connection, so it would make
sense that just having an account would allow me to stream from my Xbox One without a cable. It could be used as a separate cable box if that's the case!

You have to put a HDMI cable even for streaming there is no official work around… But you dont need to turn on the tv/monitor.

There are no official references that describes this can be done, but to me it looks it may just work. It's not that costly so may be you can give it a try and update us here.

 

As far as I know there isn't a supported way around this. I'm curious as to why you would want to just stream and not be able to see what you are streaming. Not a practice I'm familiar with.

I want to use the xbox for streaming to a PC only. So it will be in a cupboard, with power and network, but no TV connected. I will just use it for streaming, obviously I want to see what I am streaming on the PC.

 

If you do put your Xbox console into a cupboard, ensure that there is good ventilation to prevent overheating. If the cupboard is enclosed without ventilation then that raises the risk of earlier than normal failure due to overheating issues.

Well I ordered this and it works:

Now have a headless xbox one, powers on remotely and works for streaming. I did have to set the xbox at 4k for smooth streaming, but this dongle only has 2 modes 1080p @120hz and 4k @60hz, only the latter worked. Would probably be better to get one that
is just 1080p, but fundamentally this works.
