Standard def channels display in 4:3 aspect ratio

Forgive me if this has already been addressed, but I searched through the board and didn't find a thread/solution.

Since I've had the console from launch, this issue has persisted. I'm an Xfinity/Comcast subscriber using a Motorola
DCH3200 set top DVR box with a Samsung UN46ES6150 television. While watching HD channels, the Xbox displays the picture in a full 16:9 aspect ratio, but when switching to any SD broadcast, it shrinks down to a 4:3 ratio. After a few months, its
gotten pretty annoying and I haven't found a fix yet other than switching to a stretch viewing mode, which makes the already poor quality SD broadcast look even worse.

Has anyone found a solution for this? Is it something Microsoft has acknowledged and plans to address in future updates? Thanks!

pixel aspect ratio. It explains why pixel aspect ratios other than 1:1 are used as well as how display aspect ratio, pixel aspect ratio, and storage aspect ratio relate to each other.



The really, really short version is that 1024x768 16:9 displays scale the input to fit the available pixels for display.

 

Xbox One won't allow widescreen viewing

Checked the link you provided and it's no different from the actual way I setup my Xbox to my Verizon Fios/TV. I'm still seeing standard def channels (as well as DVR recorded standard def channels) in 4:3 when hooked up to the Xbox, and it's 16:9 when not
hooked up to the xbox.

I'm starting to consider unhooking my Xbox from my TV because I don't prefer watching 4:3 on a high def 16:9 capable TV.

 

I am running into this as well. Just picked up the Xbox One and loved the first few hours of playing with it. Then I decided to check out HBO on 301-310...the standard HBOs. Just using my Comcast HD box, the picture displayed was 16:9 and was amazing. Now
using the Xbox pass through with HDMI cables, it is 4:3 as well and is disappointing. I can use the stretch and it looks horrible. So for now, I am using the "Native" setting in the Xbox menu. Since these are channels we watch often, I may skip the pass through...which
is honestly really awesome and makes it easier for me to play games and using the system.

 

Same tv, same cable box, same problems.
