SSD with usb 3.1 not fast enought?

    hi

    i recently got a 1 TB x400 drive

    https://www.sandisk.com/business/computing/x400

and i don't really have a computer with an m.2 slot that can run it, so i thought i would connect it to my xbox

    so i bought a Icy box IB-1812-C31

    IB-1812-C31

but the xbox wont format the drive, and if i press "set as capture location" it comes with an error stating that the device isn't fast enought and gives me error code 0x80bd003b

anybody know how to fix this?

edit. i just realized that i wasn't very clear, i want to use this drive for game storage, the "set as capture location" was just me trying to see if something would give me somekind of clue.

    :)

Is it still better to use external hard drive for load times on X1X?

Depends on the type of USB. USB 3.0 maxes at 5 Gbps (625 MB/s) and USB 3.1 maxes at 10 Gbps (1250 MB/s), but who knows if the Xbox One X is capable of reaching those full bandwidths. I think the Xbox One X uses USB 3.0 but don't quote me on that.

EDIT: Keep in mind not every USB port is created equal, even if it's at USB 3.0. It depends on how many lanes are dedicated to it from the motherboard chipset.

going by an auto translation you are asking "What's so hard about SSD?"

i don't know what the issue is, i want to use my external ssd to install games on

but it says the drive is too slow to even save video capture on it

i do not know why as the drive is as fast as the ssd drives seagate sells as official drives.

Nero, everything I’ve researched points to this drive and enclosure being able to work so I can understand your frustration. Right off the top have you tried a different USB port on the console?

That being said if I understand this issue correctly the actual drive connects in the enclosure via SATA right? That may be the issue. Even though the enclosure is connected to the console via UBS 3.0 that, SATA connection between the drive and enclosure
is the bottleneck and causing the error.

  9. I'd suggest looking into details on the drive enclosure, the chipset on the enclosure may not be compatible or be of low overall performance versus the drive inside it.
