  1. ssd with a usb 3.1 rack on the series s

    so,i have one simple question.

I am thinking about getting a series s and the storage space being so low i was thinking if i can buy a rack for an normal ssd to install on the series s.

will the series s recognize the normal ssd in the rack or i need an external ssd?

    :)

    Hi,

I'm not entirely sure what you mean by buying a 'rack'. Can you elaborate?

In terms of using an SATA to USB 3.1 SSD, yes you can use one but there is a cavate to using one. It can only be used to play backwards compatible Xbox One, 360 and original Xbox games. Series X|S optimised games must be run either from internal or the 1TB official expansion card. None Series X|S optimised games will load faster (generally a lot faster) than they would on old style USB mechanical drive though.

You can move or copy Serie X|S games to the USB SSD but you won't be able to run them on such a drive.

The best SSD's to use are standard SATA drives, anything faster is a waste as USB 3.1 maxes out at 500MB/s which is the maximum speed of a SATA SSD.

There are two ways to connect one of these drives. Either via a SATA to USB 3.1 adaptor or via drive enclosure. If you opt for the enclosure then you need to buy a 2.5" enclosure. Toolless are the easiest to use as you just place the drive in the enclosure, put the lid on and attach it to the console via the USB cable.

Hi EduardMihai03! My name is Ricardo an independent advisor ready to help you with this situation!

As long as it's a USB 3.1 capable device, you should have no problem when you plug it in, but remember that USB storage devices only works for Xbox one games, new gen games require the internal storage speed

Thinking of picking up an SSD for Xbox Series S

Bear in mind, even faster SSD external storage only works for Xbox One and Xbox One X enhanced games. They won't work with Series X|S games. You can store these games on these drives, but you can't play them.

NVME is a waste of money as the USB 3.1 ports maximum bandwidth is 5Gb/s (or 500MB/s).

If you want an SSD for your Xbox One or Xbox One X enhanced games, then your best choice is a SATA SSD connected either via a SATA to USB 3.1 adaptor or an USB 3.1 external drive enclosure.

    Xbox one series S & portable SSD's

    Hi,

You can use USB external SSD drives on Series X/S or you can buy a 2.5" PC SSD and attach it to a SATA to USB 3.1 adaptor.

These drives are a lot faster than a standard USB 3 external HDD. However, you can only play Xbox One, Xbox 360 and original Xbox BC titles directly from them. Series X/S games can only be played from the internal drive or the optional Expansion Card.

    External Hard drive

And a credit card sized 500g...SSD by SAMSUNG T5....USB 3.1 Gen2 (up to 10gbper sec.).
Your drive is rated USB 3.1 Gen 2 and it can do up to 10 Gbit/s, but you won't get that speed on the One X as its USB ports are only USB 3.1 Gen 1 which are up to 5 Gbit/s.

Faster than a slow 2.5" 5,400 RPM mechanical hard drive for sure, but you could have achieved similar performance with a 2.5" SSD in a external hard drive enclosure.
