Is it still better to use external hard drive for load times on X1X?

Depends on the type of USB. USB 3.0 maxes at 5 Gbps (625 MB/s) and USB 3.1 maxes at 10 Gbps (1250 MB/s), but who knows if the Xbox One X is capable of reaching those full bandwidths. I think the Xbox One X uses USB 3.0 but don't quote me on that.

EDIT: Keep in mind not every USB port is created equal, even if it's at USB 3.0. It depends on how many lanes are dedicated to it from the motherboard chipset.

How to use an external HDD/SSD with the Xbox One?

It is a USB 3.0 plug on one side and a USB C plug on the other. The USB C goes into the SSD, the USB 3.0 into the Xbox or PC. Pretty standard.

4K clips don't last upto hour with external drive connected to Xbox

    Hello there,

I heard that you need USB 3.0 cable for the external drive it could fix the issue but i am not sure if a USB 3.0 works with your current SSD and you might also check your SSD compatibility with the Xbox.

    Have a good day!
