Sponsored ads on home screen

Im pretty bored of seeing ads creeping onto my console. Does this get under your skin too? I have bought the console for $$$s and pay to be part of XBL every month! why do i have to put up with stupid ads for a takeaway service! I expectto see promotions
for the Store and other featured Xbox relevant content but not 3rd party junk ads. Not cool XBox. I love the service and the community but this has really pissed my off.

The membership that Xbox charges for online multiplayer covers the cost and maintenance of the robust network of servers that keeps Xbox Live running and supports many of the games being played on the service. All three major console providers now charge
for online multiplayer content; PlayStation Network required it with the launch of PlayStation 4 (while PS3 users still had free multiplayer) and Nintendo flipped the switch - pun intended - to paid online in 2018, about 18 months after launch.

I pay for a service though, and no where else would I tolerate a marketed "Gold" package but then still have ads fired at me.

In my opinion when you opt in and pay for a 'Gold' service I would not then be expecting to see ads and in my opinion having an ad on the home screen, and not being able to mute it, IS invasive but I appreciate your reply.

I understand your 2nd para, and I would find that agreeable and in line with what other media providers currently do. Its a good thought but I have no real idea how that would affect XBL's business model, is Gold membership a cash cow? Or is it a server
maintainer fee that XBox could not provide online services without? There should definitely be an incentive to go gold/ultimate and ads would discourage F2P longevity but at the same time offer an experience of online play.

In my opinion, it's a single tile and it's not invasive. The tile is tagged "Sponsored" when it does appear, and it doesn't appear very often on my system. I'm usually more interested in getting to my content, anyway. However, that's me and my usage of
the console.

To continue the discussion, let me offer this. Let's say that the current "silver" account (what Xbox gamers have when they're not subscribing to Gold or Game Pass Ultimate) was to be modified. What would you think about a Silver account that allowed online
play in free-to-play titles (like Fortnite, for instance), but with more ads on the dash? The user would have to opt-in for this option, so it wouldn't be forced on users. Again, this is just throwing something out there ...
