    Spencer: Dropping Kinect not number one request;

    funny how if you google Molyneux .. same statement but worded different...and quotes different.... these types of articles and their writers should be beaten to a pulp...

    Moly doesnt even work for MS anymore and barely did... and he guesses they "should" release one without a kinect.. then it rewords Spencers quote to state... we are dealing with what people want... but dropping the kinect is not on that list

    See how things change depending on who is writing the article..???

    then Molyneux says

    " Kinect free Xbox is coming" ...

    Who knows for sure, I bet Microsoft don't even know yet.

    For me if they get the price to match it's main rival but leave Kinect in then I'm happy.

    Unless Microsoft want to really undercut Sony by releasing a standalone Xbox One? By recent reports Sony is still having "major" financial difficulties so if Microsoft were to say release Xbox One ( without Kinect ) and undercut them say by £100, how would/could
    they respond.

    Again, no one knows for sure ( if they say otherwise, proof please ;-) ) my hunch still is it won't be dropped but I've been wrong before and will be wrong again.

    The problem with releasing an Xbox One SKU without Kinect is that your instantly splitting the user base between those with and those without.

    What then does a developer do, does he code a game to use Kinect in some way, or does he leave it?

    Kind of pointless coding a game to somehow use Kinect (like Forza 5, Battlefield 4 etc do) if only some of the Xbox User base will use it.

    And thats the problem, if Microsoft were to release a SKU without Kinect developers WILL stop developing for it.

    Look at the Xbox 360, only a handfull of games actually require a hard drive, because devlopers couldnt guarantee that everybody had a hard drive connected to their console.

  7. Question is...would these forums be big enough to fit in all those humble pies if a kinectless Xbox did come forth? :/ lol.

    I have to say, I hope it stays as it is. Regardless to what the future holds I think its nice to know that everyone has the same kit.

    It would be a shame if they did a Kinectless bundle. Then all those propositions for the future would be virtually ended by the fact not everyone would have one.

  9. ^ My thoughts exactly mate. I can see why people would want it but I prefer the way things are at the moment so that at least people have the chance to try it before knocking it, if you like.

  10. There is no future with Kinect it's failed product. Nobody would have bought it if it wasn't bundled in the first place and deep down you know this!

    ^^ It's a failed product only because the developers couldn't make it work. They released a (like it or not) state of the art/cutting edge product back in '10. According to the numbers, 24 million people bought one. 24 freaking million. That, is not
    a failure by financial standards.

    I've noticed that the majority if not all of the people that don't want to see a Kinectless One didn't play any of the last gen Kinect games and are always the first ones to point out this Kinect 1.0 it's 2.0 and it's different.

    I played 90 percent of the last gen Kinect games and it wasn't anywhere close to being a functional primary control device for anything other than avatar sports games and dance games. The new version isn't any better, the technology just isn't there and
    when you factor in input lag it never will be.

    It's not a Kinectless One that will stop developers from developing for it, it's a proven track record of not working reliably (as a control method) and a stigma from Kinect 1.0 users as being responsible for some of the worst games in the history of video
    games.

    So we are left with a device that can be used to enhance small aspects of certain games ( some are good, others are simply optional voice commands). Is that worth forcing on the community at an additional cost? It's a hard sell when they have nothing to
    show (gaming related) that justifies the cost.

    When you're buying a console primarily as a gaming device then the novelty of talking to your TV, snapping and the other voice commands wears off pretty quick.

    I'm not interested in the Kinect's short comings from the past. This was supposed to be different. This was supposed to be everyone having one, therefore the devs could make games with that in mind. If it goes back to being that gimmick that only some Xbox
    One owners have... well then what was the point of including it in the first place?

    @Fatal

    Eggnogga's sale numbers (if accurate) show why your take on this is a problem.

    24 million people used the Kinect last gen. 24 million people know that it won't work as a primary control device in a AAA title. 24 million people know it's limitations and saw how little developer support it received last gen.

    They don't have to convince you. You're willing to give them chance. Problem is 24 million of us gave them a chance in 2010 and they let us down.

    my theory... if they release a console without the kinect... it will not be the same hardware, UI etc but a totally dumbed down, drive less, kinect less version that just plays the games... no apps, no bells no whistles ... most likely a VERY limited version
    and probably not worth owning
