Spencer: Digital Sharing and Gifting may come to Xbox One

Phil Spencer has said that Digital Sharing and gifting may one day return to Xbox One.

“We are now fully heads down on thinking about and building out the future of our digital marketplace to enable what people would expect, and hopefully some things that will delight them beyond their expectations,” Spencer told Gamespot.

“I know when I say this I always get beat up, but I think some of what we were trying to say last summer was right.

“We understand what games you own and who you are and how you move around and who you might want to loan rights to your games or gift your games to,” Spencer said.

“We totally believe in that future. And any other marketplace you play in, these kind of mechanisms are out there.”

See now I will commend Nintendo for something here, that play feature they had were you could play a friends game if you didn't have a cartridge, was cool. I would like to see that here too. Joining a friends game to play off against them or with them. Am
I making sense with that?

Gifting is always nice. I can write out a list and send you all what I want. If I don't get it, well....I'm a little like that girl out of willy wonker. You WILL see my foot stomp

 

If they get the digital pricing right then they are onto a winner in my opinion with this.

 

The problem IMO, is the only way they can do that will *** off their retailers, is it really a good idea for MS to alienate their retailers?

On another note the retail situation in the UK is shocking, now its in the hands of so few.

While it does have good points for MS to really push their own store, its never going to be good putting all our eggs in one basket.

That's actually a good point about the retailers but I can't personally see them undercutting in-store prices?

 

I hope they don't, but its certainly something they could do, and it would certainly be a sort term win, but the long term would be a wait and see.

I am a little surprised there are no games sellers with XO apps, to sell DD direct.

 

this Gen MS seems to be following retailers pricing... sale for the TF bundle.. dropping thief and Tomb raider 50% in store a weeks after release.. all good signs for me...

well dont blame MS.... it is more your tax and Vat situation that regulates prices. But arent you able to change region... set up a paypal account with a US address and buy digital that way at US priced? or did they put a stop to that?

 

Who cares about retailers?

You think Redbox cared about Blockbuster or Wal-Mart cared about the mom and pop.shops ripping people off for years.

Things change and it doesn't exclude business model.

 

@tohe, its not just down to taxes, we are able to change region but you can't use a paypal account, because you need a US address and a UK card, what you need to do if by US MS store credit from international traders.

@Chased, I don't care about retailers, I care about choice, and MS could eliminate the choice in one go, if they wanted to. MS have enough money, saying that so do all the mutliples.

 

@ DaveyBoy - You have a point there. Where would the comp come from.

Amazon or any retailer could issue competitive priced codes. Who knows but change is coming; whatever it is.

 

I don't understand why everyone gave out about this back when they announced the console. I think this is a great idea.

 

Digital Sharing? Gifting? Sounds similar to Steam wooot!
