    Speed test issues

I recently upgraded my internet speeds, bought a new modem, and ran some tests. My computer download speeds went from 100MB to just over 200MB, verified on
    www.speedtest.net.

That site doesn't work on the XB1, as it requires Flash to run. So I did a search, ended up going to bandwidthplace.com, running the XB1 test there. (Note. My 200MB speed is over wifi from my Airport router to my iMac. Same speeds approximately if I bypass
the router and hardwire the modem to my computer view ethernet. The XB1 is connected via ethernet, through the router which can handle 1GB traffic via ethernet.) The XB1 results were a paltry 40MB. So a loss of over 160MB.

My next step was to run the speed test from bandwidthplace.com on my iMac. It got the same low speeds -- about 40MB. I immediately ran the test on speedtest and was back over 200. So there's a large disparity in the speeds.

Part of it I chalk up to the servers. SP.net pings off an LA-based server (I live in LA). The closest location for bwp.com is San Jose, which is near San Fran. So about an 8-hour car drive.

So what I am trying to do is find the best way to really test my XB1 internet connection speed. I'm trying to make sure I get as close to the full 200MB as possible, to ensure the lowest-lag I can eek out of the servers.

Anyone know the best way to test this, and how I can try and maximize my speeds?

    :)

    Constant disonnects from xbox live

    Hi there Bizzare Carmine!

Sorry to hear about the disconnection issues!

Have you tried running a speed test yet? There are certain requirements a connection speed has to reach to truly utilize Xbox Live Services. I don't see any issues with the Xbox Live services on the status page. I'll provide you some links to test your speed
below just in case you haven't.

    Where to test your speed:

Speedtest by Ookla - The Global Broadband Speed Test

Speakeasy Internet Speed Test - Check Your Broadband Speed

Report back with the speed you've received from your test so we can get to the bottom of your issue!

You could have 1GB internet and it really wont do anything for game play. High speeds are fine and all but latency can be a lot of factors outside bandwidth and given Xbox lives very dedicated setup your probably not going to get any different performance
then say a 20mb connection. Also playing games themselves really doesn't require much bandwidth so if thats why you upgraded then your probably wasting money.

  5. The Xbox One has a built in speedtest you can access it by following these steps

    1. Press the Home button
    2. Press the Menu button right from the home button and select
      Settings
    3. Go to Network
    4. Select Detailed network statistics
Here you can see your download, upload and ping. The ping however does not show an accurate result depending on how far away you are from Microsoft servers however this does not impact the gameplay on the Xbox One. The only thing you can really do to maximise
your speed is to ensure you have an open NAT and a router that has a high transfer rate

Thanks. I upgraded for other reasons (work) but I was hoping this would be affected as well. Thank you both.

    speed / speed test

there are two things to consider 1- xbox download services are currently limited to slowing down due to over-demand, as there are a lot of people occupying servers 2- their internet provider should be limited their download speed for the same thing so
that should be the cause of their problems

    speed / speed test

    Hello Brad,

Thanks for replying. I have already had my ISP out to my house thinking it was a modem problem (4/6). I have done everything i can on my side to try to figure out why this is happening (please read my post again). My ISP tech and myself had both done speed
tests on both my PCs , xbox and their equipment and all the speed tests come back within the range that my internet has run for 8 years. I can watch netflix and such through my xbox but when I try to download or update a game something in my XB something is
throttling my internet down. Like I said above, I thought it might even be my modem in my xbox gone bad so I went and bought a brand new XB 1 x today (4/7 $350.00) and in the set up update it took 2 hours to get 6 percent so it is the same on a new one as
it was on my old box so I hooked that one back up and watched 4 hours of netflix through the XB this evening. I have run speed test wireless and wired through my router as well as running the XB directly through my modem and it is the same. The last thing
I did was on 3/25 or 26 was install the insider hub to download space engineers beta. I started downloading it at 1 am ish and at 9 am the next morn I had only downloaded 8 percent. I uninstall the hub and my XB has not been the same since. whatever is happening
it is strictly tied to gaming on the system. I am not a noob when it comes to this stuff though my knowledge may be out dated (A+, network+ and Inet+ certs back in the early 2Ks) I have a pretty good grasp on at least the basics of how this all works. So my
ISP blames you because because all the speed test come back fine except for the gaming side of XB and you say its my ISP, leaves me stuck in the middle with no gaming. Might you have anything else i can try or look at? Pretty bored without my gaming.

    thanks in advance
