Specifically Microsoft games get stuck with XBox Login

When I tried to troubleshoot I noticed that Windows Update was having issues as well, the service was stuck in "starting" and I saw this in the event viewer multiple times, for the DistributedCOM service, which I think is a dependency of the WUA Service:

The server <id...> did not register with DCOM within the required timeout.

Windows Update also didn't work, troubleshooter hung. I restarted BITS and the update main page showed up, but troubleshooter still hung and I couldn't get to the Advanced settings. Distributed update sources is disabled for WUA.

Even after restarting BITS the Minecraft login still didn't work.

After a restart it is working again, but I still couldn't figure out what the issue is.

I think I will reset all the things you suggested next and then reset WUA as well. Do you have any other suggestions, based on what I described above?

Hi there mmlac welcome to the community forum! Christopher here, an Xbox fan just like you and has been on Xbox for years already. I would really love to make your day by helping you out. That is odd! It might have to do with the account!

Open the Settings app it is the gear in the start menu.

Open Accounts

Click Sign-in Options

Scroll down to Privacy

Uncheck "Use my sign-in info to automatically finish setting up my device and reopen my apps after an update and restart."

Restart your PC!

I suggest you try these basic troubleshooting steps!

Open Settings, click Update and Security and then Windows Update;

Click Check for Updates;

Click the Download and Install Now option, if available;

Also, check the Microsoft Store for any updates on the Xbox apps and its services.

Then try this:

Go to windows settings > apps > search for gaming services app > click on it and select advanced options.

After that, click repair and then restore, open the app and try again.

Then do the same for the Xbox app:

Go to windows settings > apps > search for Xbox app > click on it and select advanced options.

After that, click repair and then restore, open the app and try again.

If it still doesn't work you're going to uninstall the games services using a powershell command, then you're going to open the gamepass app, it will ask you to download and install the game services again :

In the windows search bar type Powershell > Right click and select open as administrator > Type the command: "get-appxpackage Microsoft.GamingServices | remove-Appxpackage –allusers" > Wait for the process to finish and then restart the PC, then open your Xbox gamepass app, it will ask you to install the gaming services again, install it and try again.

Thanks, Christopher. I'll see if I can get away without resetting or re-installing. Resetting Windows update and installing the last cumulative Windows update seems to have fixed at least Minecraft, I need to try Forza again. Windows update also is behaving again.

Oh my! I had issues updating and playing my Xbox games and even the Xbox app and my Windows updates! I could tell you all the 10 steps I followed to solve it, unfortunately what helped me to solved this was to restart my PC as it comes here:

In the part of Windows 10 click on "Reset this PC" these instructions will help you to solve the problem, you can even leave your important files!
