  1. spdif port....xbox 1..

    hi all..

on the xbox 1 theres a spdif / toshlink hole, to connect to an audio unit.

i have n onkyo hifi amp,

on the amp there's only red / white out puts / in puts. ..no spdif or toshlink port.

so i brought a digital to analog convertor box....very same as the link below...

    http://www.dx.com/p/l-r-analog-to-toslink-coaxial-digital-audio-converter-65756#.V5J3i9QrKt8

this convertor needs to be pluged in the the mains via a 5v / 1amp power adptor.

by plugging this into my xbox1 will it make the xbox1 work any harder... or make the x1 get any little bit hotter..? (i dont want the x1 getting any hotter than it should by using it for just a game console.).

    thanks all.

    :)

  2. Getting 5.1 sound to my receiver with my new Xbox 360 E console

On upgrading from an original Xbox 360, I was very disappointed to discover that a SPDIF port is not provided in the Xbox 360 E. My television does support HDMI input, allowing me to have 720p game playback, but does not support digital audio out. Conversely,
my receiver supports digital audio input, but not HDMI input.

How can I get 5.1 Dolby Digital audio to my receiver? Can I use the included audio/video 1/8" cable to route 5.1 audio to the receiver? Alternatively, could I use an external HDMI to HDMI+SPDIF splitter (e.g., http://www.amazon.com/ViewHD-Premium-Audio-Extractor-Converter/dp/B00AHS8LD8/)
to 5.1 audio to my receiver?

Incompetent Customer Service - Dolby Digital via HDMI

Wow. I did not know that. If that's the case, then SPDIF is probably the only way. Bitstreamed Dolby 5.1 from DVDs via SPDIF should sound no different to the same bitstreamed via HDMI - had the Xbox been able to do it. uuuhhh.... the Xbox can bitstream
    DD5.1 via SPDIF, right?

    spdif port....xbox 1..

Hi, as that uses it's own power supply it won't add any further strain to your Xbox One.

The hdmi in port on the Xbox One is for plugging in TV boxes, not for plugging in soundbars, as the signal goes in, not out. Your best bet is to use a optical spdif cable from the Xbox to your soundbar, if your soundbar supports optical spdif.

is there a cover or flap over the port labeled SPDIF?

Xbox Series X - no optical audio port?

    Spdif port?

It's a optical digital port that sends sound basically.

A lot of the headphone kits for xbox use it to get audio to there headsets, as do a lot of audio receivers.

There should be, but if for some reason it broke off and the light is bothering you, feel free to put some electrical tape over it.

As to the port itself. Someone else has said it better than I can:

"I am guessing you are talking about a TOSlink output for your SPDIF. It is the visible carrier beam and is modulated with the digital data. It means it is turned on and likely working."
