We don't have access to know what's going to happen regarding the next gen console and the capabilities it holds. Luckily in just a couple weeks at E3, we'll know just about everything we need to satisfy our wondering minds. At this time, I'd also suggest
you looking into Security Proofs because they add added security to your Microsoft Account. I'm not 100% certain if the PlayStation network offers such help:

Play Station insures that their game systems are backwards compatible without charging a premium for online access. They get hacked. I'm sure you use the live membership fee to pay for security features but please make a backwards compatibility pack for
all games that need them especially this one. Because you are charging a live subscription for your own reasons but please use it four our reasons too since nobody wants to go buy a retro console just to be able to play the game or be forced to use a free
virtual console so that can play for free on any PC in the world.

I loved this game and whilst not a possibility now, would love to see it become backwards compatible.

As most people have stated, Backwards Compatibility as a whole has been shelved until further notice. That being announced at E3 2019 (this year) along with why, the new console project scheduled to slam in next year.

Like the others have said the program is on hold but I would love to see that come eventually.

All BC changes have been suspended pending the release of project Scarlett next year. Anyway, that would be the decision to be made by game developers when BC production continues.
