  1. Spam...

I'm getting spam in my Messages on XBox live and I called support and they said I had to post my complaint on these forums. I report and block the sender but I always get more with different screen names. The last one was from
[Mod Removed]. How are they able to know our screen names anyway? Does Xbox provide that information somewhere? I guess I'll report each gamer tag that sends me spam on this thread. I don't want to block messages from people who aren't
    on my friends list

    :)

Do not report people here, support were wrong.

Just report and block on your console.

  5. Are you a moderator? I thought they also monitor the threads? So support was just trying to get me off the phone? [Mod Removed]just spammed me. I reported and blocked. I still want to know how they get our screen names?

  6. No i am not a mod, they do monitor threads but very rarely get involved.

Yes, support tell you to post here to clear the phone lines, they do it all the time.

They get your tag from various places, they could be in lobbies you are in or from forum posts like this one.

If you google your own tag you will find it on many achievement types sites that you may have never even visited.

There is no way to know exactly where they get it from.

As long as you do not follow any links they give you or give out any personal details, you are at no risk at all.

Just treat them like you would with email spam, ignore and delete it.

As stated above, the best course of action would be to report and block the user. Xbox has said they're

    investigating
the increase in spam messages. Don't respond to them. Also please do not post their gamertags on the forums. Thanks!

I keep getting them too. mostly from people advertising websites for gift cards. They all are random generated gamertags who only made the account for advertising. they probably use a silver membership so they can send messages. They don't know your gamertag
from what I can understand. im assuming they probably enter something and hope they get a real gamertag. chances are if you changed it, they wouldn't send them to you anymore until they guessed it too. my buddy hasn't gotten any messages but his is a little
harder to guess. then if you send a reply, they know they have an active gamertag and continue to harass you. I got one a while back from someone claiming to be the general manager trying to get my xbox information in what im assuming was an attempt to hack
my account. they probably do the same thing if you go to that site and enter your email, hoping you will put in the email you use for your gamertag. then im sure they have methods to get your password. but unless Windows and Xbox is willing to block every
IP address from every person who sends an advertisement, I don't think its going to stop. I reported the windows manager poser and I don't think hes been back online since that week but it would take everyone reporting these people to get all of them to stop.
Im probably going to change my gamertag soon to try to get rid of the problem all together.

  12. They don`t just guess tags, that would take them a lifetime of guessing and changing your tag will do nothing but cost you money.

Your tag is all over the internet, google it if you don`t believe me.

Sites like true achievements have your tag and put you on a leaderboard, even if you have never been on there.

Thousands of tags in one place.

Every single online game, that has a multiplayer leaderboard, that you have played, has your tag listed.

I don`t see them ever stopping the spammers, they can only ban them as they go.

They are gamer tags made with a free 24 hour (or more) gold access. From there; it's simply typing out a message promoting/selling "product A" and then copy and pasting it to messages that they find randomly either 1.- In the forums, or 2.- On global leader
boards from websites designed to promote games on multiple platforms, or by some "profile search bot."

What we really need is a place to consolidate the gamer tags in one location so that the "experts" who are designed to be there to protect us from this at Xbox Live; can chase down the IP addresses, and simply BLOCK those IP locations from access, and harassment
    of it's users.

When/If this list ever gets started, or made; I'd like to have some gamer tags/profiles looked into for spam messaging my inbox.

Also note that the ONLY option currently is to respond, block, reply, (et al) is to do so ON the Xbox One while signed in on line. [This opens another can of worms about "worm programs" or even profile/identity theft.] When trying to do so on Xbox.com it
simply leads you to "support." and the majority of operators aren't trained/able to help. (So we get bounced around until we get to someone who tells you to reply Stop. Do I know you? Unsubscribe. [Or something along those lines.])

There is yet NO WAY to block a profile from PC. (Not positive on phone, or smart glass enabled devices)

If at all possible; I'd like to request a response from a moderator, (or someone with the power and authority) to do some research into this; and begin the task of pursuing these aberrant IP address that have been generating these profiles, spamming messages,
and bothering it's paying gold member users.

Also note that I'd like to be messaged by anyone reading this/moderator/admin/et al about the forum entry "LISTING" the annoying gamer tags, so that we can get on top of this IP address, and find the person/people responsible for spamming our community of
    users.

Thanks in advance for any and all help from the powers that be who will help; or get us to someone who CAN (i.e.- has the power and ability,) to help.

  14. You can block via your PC.

Go to the message you received, open their profile and simply block them from there.

Yo can not report from there, even though the option is there, it just takes you to a support page when you try.

    Blocking IP`s will never happen.

  15. Then they simply reset their router, get a new IP address, carry on spamming and some poor innocent gets blocked from Xbox Live.

    IP bans are worthless.
