Sound keeps cutting out while playing games! Help!

Hello,

I just recently purchased the new blue edition of the xbox 360. I transferred all my data from my original xbox 360 (the white, 1st edition) and couldn't wait to play with the new 500 GB. So after im playing a game for 20 minutes... the sound cut out for
2 seconds. It returned to normal and then about 10 minutes later it did it again. Sometimes it happens a couple times in a row, sometimes half hours apart . The next day i was playing for an hour and then it happened again. It's completely random and extremely
annoying. I don't play games with subtitles on so I can focus on the characters and a few times it happens right as someone is telling me something plot related. And it's a brand new system!

So i have tried the following:

~I've changed settings on the xbox for the tv audio.

~I bought a new hdmi cable.

~I switched ports on the tv.

What can I do??? Send help! lol

The same thing happens to me with the same exact sound system and tv, but with cod black ops 2. I really wish there was an answer, but I have none. It seems best just to use the tv's audio instead.

I just got a new Samsung UN55D6300, and Samsung HT-D5300 Blu-Ray surround sound system. My 360 is connected to the TV through HDMI, and the surround system is also connected to the TV through HDMI, no other audio cables. Whenever I play MLB 2k11, the
sound will cut out somtimes. It only happens when a bat makes contact with a ball, and it does it anywhere from 5 to 10 times in a 9 inning game. To get the sound back I can either cycle through the inputs on the blu ray player until I get back to the right
one, I can switch the tv to another input then back to the 360, or I can unplug the HDMI cable from the 360 and back in - all of these things will make the sound come right back on. I haven't noticed it with any other game yet, but I mostly play MLB lately.
It never happened on my Vizio with Panasonic home theater system.

 

Also would like to mention I have never had this problem with the older 360. The older 360 did however use the old hdmi connection (6 prongs) And i have several other things i usually switch out to the hdmi ports on the back of the tv, so i doubt its the
hdmi port on the back of the tv.

Sorry to hear about the audio issues! I would double verify that all of the TV settings match up by following this guide

here! In addition, I see that you have changed the TV audio settings, but I would select Digital Stereo if it isn't already. Let us know if that guide helped!

I have it set to digital stereo.

I followed the guide and set the reference level to expanded, and the colors and images look much better than before! I am wondering if that would effect the sound? I'll play some games and see if the sound cuts out again. I mean I never changed that setting
before since I wasn't using a Hdmi cable.

 

So far no cutting out! EXCEPT playing Dragon age inquisition, there was a lot going in the game though and it was lagging, so i think that was the games fault. I will try a few more games but so far so good!

Ok, so everything was going well. The sound wasn't cutting out for 2 hours. And then it did for another 2 seconds or so. So I think it's maybe still acting up? I was so sure it was fixed after changing that setting. Could it be my tv? It's not crazy old
or anything, and it was never doing this before the new xbox. I also noticed when i turned off my xbox after the longer use, I got this weird color streaking and blocks flash on the screen when it was going to black screen. Is it getting too hot? Someone told
me that there are not as many fans in the new build, and i have it in the same location it was before. It's on a shelf in my tv stand. Its enclosed on all sides except the front, and has about 4 inches above it. I'm trying to think of what it could be. I was
so sure it was fixed!

Although the frequency is much less... Once in a 2 hour period. As opposed to like 12 times in a 2 hour period.

 

Thanks for the reply! Try moving your Xbox 360 console to an open area with tons of breathing room along with Removing your Xbox 360's Hard Drive and then plugging
it back in to see if the issue persists.

Sorry for the delay, due to the holidays I was away and didn't have too much free time.

I unplugged the hard drive and put it back in, and the sound problem is still persisting...

I also moved a shelf so there is more room for the xbox. I'm really not sure what it would be... There is now about 6 inches above open and 6-7 inches all around it. It's still in a tv shelf, so its not completely open. But i don't really want to put it
on my floor since its carpet. Could it really be getting too warm?
