Sound Issue

Hello. I recently got a soundbar that only has an optic connect. I don't connect directly through xbox and I went optic from tv to soundbar, cable box hd cable to tv, xbox to tv. For some reason TV (hd 1) and everything works fine, but when I switch to
xbox (hd4) i have video but no audio. Is it something in the options menu I need to do, change cable/cord routing, or both? Thanks for the time.

Hello,

The office were I work has an Xbox 360 connected to a projector through an HDMI cable. When I tried to use it, the sound would not work at all. I know it is not the speakers, because when I use it with the Apple TV and TV, it plays sound. We have also connected
the consul to a different TV and the sound worked. I have tried to look up the solution on other forums, but none of the solutions work and no one else seems to know what the problem is. Help please?

Hi, could you check the audio settings on the Xbox.

In particular check the HDMI options, is HDMI audio turned off maybe?

Do you get audio from the Xbox if you try a different HDMI port on the Tv at all ? Try the HDMI port that you currently have your cable box connected to as you know that works, if you then get audio from the Xbox perhaps try HDMI 2 or 3 rather than 4.

Some HDMI ports are classed as DVI/PC ports and will not accept audio in from any device which may be the case here.

 

You most likely have to run an optical audio cable from your Xbox one to your tv (if it has an optical audio input that is) if you want to get the audio to your sound bar. Audio should still come out through the tv's built in speakers though.

 

Sadly I've never come across a Tv that has the ability to accept audio in through the optical connection, they're all pretty much audio out only.

I don't believe your issue is a difficult one to resolve Ashb1ess, your cabling seems fine to me, it's more than likely just a case of using a different HDMI port on the Tv or checking that the HDMI audio settings on the Xbox are set correctly, I find that
Stereo Uncompressed seems to work fine in most cases. Setting to Dolby etc can cause some issues if your Tv won't accept the Dolby output from the Xbox.
