Sound gone from Xbox One

Yesterday my Xbox One was fine, today there's no sound whatsoever from games or apps (this is over the TV, not headphones). There has been no moving or fiddling with Xbox prior to this happening. The microphone icon next to the time is crossed out. Controller
is new. have tried:

Ensuring TV is not muted & volume is adequate

Unplugging & plugging in machine

Changing HDMI cords

Reset using start button

Hard reset to factory default

Every combination of video and audio settings

Calling Microsoft Xbox support - they said it's probably a hardware issue, like the HDMI port isn't recognizing the audio portion of the HDMI cable. Since it's not under warranty & MS considers it obsolete, they're not repairing them and I was advised to
either find a local repair shop or buy a new machine.

Anyone out there have a similar issue? Any suggestions on what to try other than getting a new Xbox?

Hi there,

Sorry to hear you're having this issue. This is a bit of a long winded troubleshoot but could you get a friend or relative to pop around with a console? So it can be determined whether the console or TV is the problem. Seems like that's your best option
atm, as you have tried pretty much everything else.

Good idea actually - I'm going to connect the console to a friend's TV to check this out. My TV is fairly new but you never know... Thanks for the response.

Hi Erick thanks for the response. Yes it's an original Xbox One. I already did a factory reset/save games. No response. Tried every option I could find on the Net, every combination of audio/video settings. Since Microsoft Support could provide no help,
this was a last gasp try.

Also when you stated that you Hard reset to factory default, did you just hold down the power button until the console turned off (hard reset) or did you go through settings and Factory Reset your Xbox One? If you

physically power cycled the console then I would advise that you go through a

Factory Reset and Keep Games & Apps.
