SORRY, But I Think We Need Some Space

Before you read any further...the gist of this topic is growth of xbox hard drive space on consoles.

I don't know how many gamers there are out there like me that download a ton of games, updates, and other relevant data. This post is for those of us that go hard with the downloads.

I have a 1TB Xbox One with 2 1TB external hard drives attached to my console . . . yet i STILL need more space for downloads. I download every free game that gold members are given. I keep all games and apps etc. updated, and because of this I am constantly
stuck erasing something whenever i download anything new.

With that said, i am wondering why you guys (Microsoft) won't put out a console with a 3, 5, or even a 10+ TB hard drive? Or if there's one on the horizon, let it be known please. Even an alternative such as an official external xbox hard drive of 5 or 10
    extra TBs.

This request may sound excessive, but its fairly not. Base hard drive space for xbox one games typically range from 35 - 70 GBs with packs and updates as high as 10+ GBs of space per. You can easily use up 70 - 100GBs of space just for one game. ONE GAME.
Not to mention the constant console updates (which you're forced to have in order to properly stay connected online). Xbox 360 game downloads on Xbox One average 5 - 7 GBs of space with updates around 500mb - 1+GBs.

I guess what im saying is i don't want to have to keep buying, formatting, and switching external HDs or have external HDs that require AC power and all just to stay up-to-date. And i most certainly despise having to constantly erase my other content just
to update a game or download a game my gold membership entitles me to.

Am i extra, yes; but i love my Xbox, and quite frankly, i think we need some space.

    Sincerely,

    xoMIDWAYxo

    :)

Sorry for the late reply, I think it just needs some space or it may be too hot in your house.

I would rather buy my own external HDD (at lower prices, during a sale for example) than have MS supply a larger internal/external at their prices. Why not buy a 16TB external?

The price of a console with say a 10TB hard drive would be huge & probably wouldn't sell that well.

As TODI said, buying external hard drives is cheaper & the option most people would go for.

I know Microsoft are looking into a way of making better use of hard drive space etc. because of the size of 4k enhanced games that are coming.

I just delete games that I know i'm not going to play for a while

I've yet to see a game up to 100GB. Also, when a game update is 10GB and then the next up date is 6 or whatever, it doesn't add into the overall space taken up. It overwrites the previous update.

I rock a 500GB and still have 100GB free. I've gone all digital over two years ago. I just delete games I know I won't play again. No point in downloading them and keeping them there for no reason.

I'm fine with 500. I only play one game at a time.

Forza 7 will be around 100gb with the 4k update I think & I guess other games will be getting near that as well.

I'm the same,i mostly play on a 500gb console & have no problem.

If I do fancy playing something that isn't on my hard drive I just redownload it.

I know that can be an issue for those with data caps but an external hard drive is the way to go if that's a problem.

Plugging one in & formatting it really isn't a inconvenience is it?

I know I can be lazy but even I can manage that.

They really crippled X1 on features that were so easy on 360 - copy stuff between drives.

I have 1 TB X1 and it's almost full - and categorized games on install+patch sizes needed - so I remove that which requires less download again first or Ubisoft which tend to be silly large patches.

But maybe there are options once you get external drive - don't know.

3 TB external is $100 - so not a biggy if really needed to have so much installed - but I don't.

X1S was a white 2 TB console when introduced - so why not for X1X for those that want it.

1 TB will run out quickly once getting 4k stuff on it. Hopefully installer will be smarter so not everybody has to download all that crap - but doubt it.

As i prefaced this feed with saying this thread is about serious gamers and downloaders....i play multiple games at different times throughout the week. Im currently playing around 11 or so games. Plus i have children and a spouse who play. And yes we have
more than 1 console. U don't mind constantly erasing data n u only play 1 game at a time. And i can screen shot you pix of my games and the space they take up if you don't believe me.

Yea you're correct. Adding new hard drives is the self solving issue but i only have about 200 games occupying my xbox and external hard drives and the library's of games is well over that. My kids have friends that come play, i have gatherings b etc so
constantly erasing and waiting for downloads and updates gets old crazy fast. Maybe there's no way around the huge space games take up other than erasing games and buying more hard drives.

And see thats gonna be a huge issue. Im 95% a digital gamer and i know 4k games will eviscerate a 1TB hard drive in no time. Developers put serious man power I creating a system but forgot about storage. A super powerful 4k system 6 teraflops of power but
no place to store more than a handful of titles. Its like koenigsegg creating a supercar with no place for the gas tank. Poor comparison but u get my drift lol

Again, you should buy a huge external drive. There are so many advantages to an external. It is great for taking your library with you when visiting friends/family. If upgrading consoles...unplug from old, plug into new. Will be much cheaper in $ per TB
than anything you will get branded from MS (regardless of whether they put it inside or external). If MS were to put a 10TB drive in the X, I bet the console would cost at least a thousand dollars (or more?), nobody would pay that much.

Stupidest thing I've read all day. Did I not say I download everything? I've probably been playing games longer than you've been alive and have literally owned every single console ever made except PS4. Is that serious enough for you? My kids play games
too, but they have their own consoles.

    To the original poster.

You do realise that if you delete a game of your hard drive, you can re-download it again in the future right?

I mean I don't know what you do for a living, but I play a couple of hours a night and I don't have the time to play the amount of games I own, you must be the same.

Also as other haves said, a system with a 10TB hard drive would just be insanely expensive. You are currently looking at roughly £350 for a 10TB hard drive, would you like to pay roughly £750 for the Xbox One X?

Xbox One X will not cost £750. Microsoft has set a RRP of US$499, AU$649 and NZ$749. And European currency is more valuable than NZ currency.

My Seagate SLIM 1TB HDD cost me NZ$99 and comes with a 3 year warranty from Seagate.

It's best to get your own external HDD. Because Microsoft will charge a lot more, to build a console with a larger HDD. You can get more storage cheaper from 3rd parties than the prices Microsoft will charge. I remember when Xbox 360 Slim 4GB and 250GB models
came out. They were like NZ$249 for the 4GB model and NZ$399 for the 250GB model. $100-$250 for a 4GB storage capacity console? ANOTHER reason why to buy external and from 3rd parties, is because companies like Seagate etc offer longer warranties on their
HDD's than the standard 12 month warranty Microsoft issues with consoles.

You also have digital rights too. When you gave Microsoft your money, you can download and redownload the game off Xbox Live to a console Unlimited amount of times. You hold a license to use and download as many times as you like. But I think you may need
to chill with how many games your Xbox One with external HDD's attached, has. I mean how many games do you want to store at once - 200? 300? The average person likely only stores under 100 games at once ready for their entertainment. You have to be mindful
too that Xbox One game sizes are a lot massive compared to Xbox 360 game file sizes.

Perhaps try to simplify your life. You don't want a long list of games you don't play daily/regularly on your storage device. You can always re-install or re-download those games when it becomes necessary. I've purchased 25 games on Xbox One, and still manage
to fit them onto my 1TB Seagate and 500GB console. You can't tell me you play 25 games every day. We have school and/or work. And those things alone take up a huge chunk of time. Then there's sleep which is suppose to be 8 hours a night too. Perhaps try simplifying.
