Sooooo, let me guess... Hacked again?

I was watching Netflix about 15 minutes ago and got booted from live, now I can't log in... Did the servers get hacked again? Figured I would ask before I spend 3 *** hours trying to troubleshoot lè shoot my *** again like I did the other day.

Are X-Box Live users at risk of anything when the servers get hacked? I installed that new update... I'm new to all this so forgive my ignorance.

 

My vote is no, however I think the real story is going to be *** hilarious in comparison. About 40m ago some xbox 360 users were experience problems running and downloading/updating some apps, a hotfix to try and correct that issue would line up perfectly
with the current problem. I suspect that when Microsoft tried to fix an issue effecting a few users they created a much larger one effecting everyone.

Hackers: 1 Microsoft: -1

 

Not that anything is at risk cause no system is untouchable, but Xbox is very secure so do not worry, and more than likely its not a *Hack* but more like a DDoS attack again.

I'm upset that the Support Page undersells the outage. At least this time, they acknowledge some problem. But I can't log on at all. It's not a question of whether I can't access some apps.

I noticed we had an update earlier this week. I hoped it was a patch to stop this from happening somehow. Regardless, it's not a hack, it's a denial of service attack overwhelming the servers.

I don't get why anyone does this. It's just to about a massive number of people and inconvenience them. I don't blame Microsoft as I don't there is much they can do to prevent these attacks when some group is determined.

 

Twice in one week they have been hacked. So why should I spend $400 on an Xbox one?

 

Ok to clarify and subsequently answer mortdowneyjr's question: The term "hacker" is currently being used extremely loosely when describing the most recent DoS attack on the Live servers. DoS and DDoS attacks are not really hacking at all, on their own
they cannot be used in any way to steal information, rather they just cause disruption and potential monetary damages to the service providers themselves.

 

This is incredibly annoying. Twice in one week... How long is it going to be this time? At least I know better than to waste my time walking through the troubleshooting steps this time.

 

YOU ARE FREAKIN MICROSOFT! Why are a bunch of immature trolls shutting your service down??? Should I just return the xbox One I bought my kids as an upgrade for Christmas? You owe your customers some answers. Two ruined evenings in a week is unacceptable.

 

Careful with statements like that SF64499, if that ideology takes hold then it won't be long before we see other DoS and DDoS attacks being performed by competing corporations to garner more sales for their particular product ;P

 

xbox live will be back up just wait and no one is at risk xbox protects it players

 

It's not hacked, but a denial of service attack, and there's probably not much Microsoft can do to prevent them to anyone with the resources and will to do it. It's the same group reading responsibility as the one this week. There also attacked PlayStation'
s system, EA, and also this week, Valve (Steam).

These guys just like to about people. It sucks, but I wouldn't make a purchase decision based on it.

It's a denial of service attack, not a hack in which personal information of yours is being breached.
