Sony STR-DN850 Receiver set up with Xbox One - What should the settings be on the Xbox One

    Hello,

So I have had my Xbox One for over a year and I love it. The only problem I have really been having is getting the audio to work correctly with my receiver and my TV. I have been into the Xbox One settings a countless amount of times changing them trying
to make it work better. I just want to know how to configure the settings in the Xbox to work correctly and get the most out of my receiver and the audio.

I currently have a Sony STR-DN850 7.2 Channel 150Wx7 Receiver and I am hooked up to it via HDMI cord from my Xbox to the receiver HDMI in and then from the receiver to my TV. And obviously HDMI Cord from my Xbox one to my Dish Receiver. Throughout the year
of owning my Xbox One I noticed a significant amount of lip sync issues while watching movies on the Blu-Ray App and also some lip sync issues while watching TV. I changed multiple things in the settings of the Xbox One to try to get this fixed and every time
I think I get it fixed it seems to come back. Recently I changed more settings and once again I think I have it fixed, but I guess I will see if I really do.

So, for the settings my Xbox one is on right now for the Settings>Display&Audio section I have the HDMI section the only one on and the only two that seem to work is the Stereo Uncompressed setting, but it really doesn’t sound very good, so I Changed it
to bitstream and had the bitstream section to Dolby Digital and it sounds pretty good. The main speaking and sound comes out of the front main speakers and the background sound come out of the surround sound hooked in speakers from my receiver. When I change
the setting to the 5.1 Uncompressed or 7.1 Uncompressed I only get sound out of the front hooked in speakers while all other speakers hooked in have no sound at all. I don’t know much about Audio terms and technology but I know just enough to be dangerous
with it. Now, in this same section in settings I also changed the Display from 720p to 1080p because I read that that helped with the lip sync issues. I don’t know what that really matters on but the display doesn’t really change much on my TV for either setting
so I put it back to the default of 720p.

The other thing that I changed that made probably the most difference in sound and surround sound was in the Setting>TV&OneGuide section. I changed a setting (that I can’t remember what the main setting was on) but from that to Surround Sound and I guess
that allowed the Xbox One to realize if anything it is hooked into uses Surround Sound, and it sounds surround sound now. After that I had to restart my Xbox and it changed the sound significantly.

Other than that I also messed with the setting that allows 50hz or 60hz refresh on the HDMI for the lip sync issue but I didn’t notice a change so I left it alone at the default 50hz, plus I have no idea what that does let alone what hz means.

So I guess what I am really wanting is some guidance to know what the correct set up would be for the setting configuration on my Xbox One or the settings for my Sony receiver that will give me the best quality of sound and no lip sync issues and fully surround
sound through my Xbox One with the set up that I am using. I just want to know what would work best?

    Thank you for the support.

    Preston

    :)

Xbox One Audio Settings with Surround Sound Receiver?

Hello, so I am just wondering what audio settings should my Xbox One be set to to work best and use the full potential of my surround sound receiver? It is a Sony STR-DN850 Receiver.

XBox One and Sony STR-DH540 reciever issues

Hello I am looking for some help with my Xbox One and Sony STR-DH540, for some reason I am unable to get 5.1 surround sound. When I set the Xbox One audio settings to 5.1 the receiver pops up and says Linear 3/2.1 but I only get audio from the right and
left speakers no rear or sub. When I try to switch to digital surround the receiver goes in to DTS mode but again shows 3/2.1 and again on audio from right and left no rear or sub. Has anyone else had this issue or is anyone else using a Sony receiver with
    out any issues.

    Thanks

As for lip syncing I would say turn off any post processing features that are meant to clean up images on your TV MPEG, Noise, Color/Contrast enhancement turn it all off. Turn on a game mode if it has one. These are normally fine if your TV is putting out
the sound since it will know how long it's taken to clean up an image so it can sync the audio correctly.

Using a surround sound speaker setup instead of built in TV speakers means sounds are played when they are received by the receiver. The image can then be cleaned up by the TV which can take a noticeable amount of time so the sound is always ahead of the
TV image and so it's out of sync. Can also make gaming annoying since what your seeing on screen versus inputs from your controller can be out of sync as well.

As for not getting any sound from your surround sound speakers using LPCM uncompressed is this when playing a game, or just certain TV and Movies? Most games should provide full surround sound and a lot of them have in game audio settings to make the most
out of a surround sound setup. If it's just certain TV, Streaming, Movies it could be they simply are stereo audio sources and your getting a one to one reproduction. I checked out the specs on your receiver and it does have modes to expand stereo sound sources
    into simulated surround.

It also lists in it's specs LPCM (2CH/5.1CH/7.1CH) thru HDMI : Yes (2CH / 5.1CH / 7.1CH) decoding. Which is what I posted you should use in your other thread.

Thank you very much for replying to my issue. I have been having this issue for some time now. I will try that setting tonight and see what it does, but the majority of the time when I set my Xbox One to 7.1 Uncompressed I only get sound out of my front
speaker. But I never had my receiver set to LPCM, So that may fix that. I will try it.

As for not getting the sound from all the speakers and the lip sync issues it seems to only happen during movies like when I watch on the Blu-Ray app on my Xbox One or just through my cable box. During games it seems to work great. I always thought that
the lip sync issue was more with the display than the Receiver because of the way the cables have to be run it leaves room for a little delay but I never new where to change these settings or what to exactly change.

Also, I have my Xbox One set to Surround Sound instead of Stereo inside the Settings>TV&OneGuide section. Do you think that is OK?

Thank you again so much for replying. I have been trying to get help with this since I got my Xbox a year ago.

What are your thoughts with the Xbox One Slim?

Why can I not quote individual posts when replying to this thread?

I read with interest @Elohmn's assertion that Xbox One S supports HDMI 2.0, however according to High-DefDigest.com, if your A/V gear doesn't support HDCP 2.2, then you won't be able to playback UHD discs. I'm down with that, but the gray area for me is
whether my current A/V receiver (SONY STR-DN850) will throughput regular 1080p if I upgrade to Xbox One S - since I don't plan on buying a 4K television anytime soon.

I actually canceled a preorder for Xbox One S because I couldn't understand the difference between HDMI and HDCP. But surely if I just wanted to play my Xbox One games on the new console, and enjoy the larger HDD, then I should be good to go, right? ;)

    Hey ExtremusMaximus!

Since this thread is fairly old, go ahead and try 1585 as the remote code if you own the Sony STR-DE635. If that code does not work, give
    0158, 1112, or 0159 a shot.
