Son's Microphone not working on headset, HELP!

At my whits end, my sons microphone isn't working on his headset (he can hear), just no-one can hear him. I've checked all settings, bought a new headset, everything is connected and switched on.

The little headphones appear on the screen so the xbox recognises they are connected. He cant chat via xbox or fortnight but as above he can hear.

I'm going this afternoon to get a new controller to see if its that.

Any ideas??

I'd say plug it into a PC and go into a web test (look up Microphone test and allow access), see if that works, or if there is a test on Xbox then try it on there. How to you plug it in? Because I tried to use a splitter initially as I used to be
a PC gamer, whereas on Xbox you DON'T use a splitter and it detects both automatically. Let me know how the test results go

Thank you. I did do a test and the mic works. He now has 2 headsets as I initially thought it was the headset that was broken?!

We dont use a splitter, plugs straight into the controller. Hopefully when I pick the new one up later this afternoon it works. Can you fix the jack on a controller? Seems like im going to have 2 that he wont be able to use (both dont work)

I'd say first check inside the jack to make sure that nothing in there is blocking the connection, but that doesn't seem to make sense as he can still hear his friends. My final guess would be that the headset MIC SETTING is automatically switched off, and
if that's the case I'm SO SORRY that you spent extra money on another headset. To check this, go to System - Audio and then at the top is a "Headset Mic" option. That could be off. Also check if your sons controller is fully updated by going into XBOX Accessories
app. I wish I had recommended the first step earlier, just slipped my mind. Hope this helps!

Yes a new controller should fix the problem. My son is very rough on his also.

Do you know, is it fixable? If not Xbox are going to be making a mint from us

My thought was controller also. Have you tried head set on PC?

Thank you, headset works on Laptop. Ive also been through both of those links and have tried those fixes.

Keeping everything crossed the new controller works. Can you fix the jack on the controllers?
