Something is wrong with this update for gamertag custom. And i hate it.

Yes so the hashtag prefix of a hashtag followed by 4 numbers denotes that the gamertag has already been taken and the numbers are used to distinguish it from others.

This new system is similar to Discord.

The four numbers are deducted from the old 16 character limit meaning that 4 characters will always be held aside to allow for situations like this.

This means that you can only now change your gamertag to those which are 12 characters or less. This means that gamertags that were longer before this new system are rare because you cannot get them under the current system.

I really do hope Microsoft restores the 16 character limit as the current system stifles creativity amongst its users.

I think it a lot better to have the Suffix on the end since it now means you can have any gamertag and not keep being told that it already exists

If you choose a GT that already exists, it will put these numbers after it.

Because that's just how the new system is. Gamertags are limited to 12 characters to accommodate the suffix if needed. Anyone who already had a gamertag from the old system that was over 12 characters is allowed to keep it, but they will lose it if they
change the tag.

I don't understand. My gamertag with my old xbox live account have more characters than 12 characters.
