something is seriously wrong with my controller

Last night I was playing with some friends when I noticed a strange problem with my controller. Everytime I scroll through something with my dpad or directional stick it always skips the thing next to it (if that makes sense) and it keeps on skipping and
skipping and I don’t know why. Its strange because its not a drift. I thought that was the only problem when I noticed when i try to play a game or type something the select button keeps pressing itself so everytime i play a game it keeps pausing itself and
i cant even type a simple message. I tried to look it up and it seems like im the only one having this problem. SOMEONE PLEASE HELP!

To rule out software, make sure the firmware is updated.

Thanks for your response. Sometimes debris and dust can get stuck in the controller, it is not recommended to open your controller but, using a cotton swab and some 90% isopropyl alcohol is a good method to clean a controller. If cleaning the controller
does not resolve this issue, then the controller could have a failing part which would call for replacement.

Do you know if it does the same thing while plugged in via USB cable or only when wireless? Have you checked for updates, resynced the controller, hard reset the Xbox, tried a different controller, etc.? If you have there may be something wrong with the controller
itself. If it's a new controller you could return it where you purchased it form. If it's not new, but less than 90 days old it would be under warranty for repair/replacement. Otherwise your best option would most likely be to buy a new controller.

Ive tried to use a usb and strangely it doesn’t work, my controller and console are updated, I hard reseted my xbox, I resynced my controller, I tried another old controller I had that has a drift and it doesn’t have the problem, and the controller that has
the problem I haven’t even had it for a year only a few months now

I would start with Tormaz's advice and see what happens after that. How old is the controller? Is your console up to date ?
