Someone was using my account for years!

OK this is REALLY strange.

I noticed some emails popping up in my email account, which were about some XBOX live gold memberships and bought content.

I soon discarded it as clickbait spam or something else. That was in 2016.

But after a while some more emails popped up. And I looked a bit closer.

Then I remembered that I once did have a Microsoft Live account, when I bought Street FIghter 4 for the PC and you had to have an account to run it. The name and surname that was connected to the account were not mine, but somehow sounded familiar (I think
I used them as fake names for the account when I created it).

However since yesterday even more stuff was bought through that account and since I couldnt log in (I didnt know the password anymore) I chose a password reset and since the account was still bound to my email adress I recieved the reset code and could reset
the password and log in into the account.

Then I realised, someone must have used my account for years, playing XBOX games and chatting and everything. The player name is "". He even has 5$ worth of credits on it.

What the hell is happening? Like I said I did not use this account for many years.

The only thing I can think of is someone breaching into my Live account (did the Live accounts ever got breached and emails and passwords posted somewhere?) and using it as if it were theirs, but without ever having the possibility to log in into the email-account
that is connected to it. My email account is secured flawlessly with 2-step auth and was never breached, I'm very careful with it since I have it since 2004. So my email-account is fine. However that Live account was definately being used by someone else.

I now have control over it again (I'm writing this thread with it) but there is still money on it and what not. Who ever used it illegaly is now definately pissed and will try something. So what should I do?

I tried to call microsoft xbox support but of course now its sunday so that won't work. Then this morning, someone called on my cell phone at 4AM from TUNESIA (I'm located in Germany) while I was sleeping. My cell phone number is NO WHERE saved in that live
account. Really strange stuff happening.

The thing is because iv set this profile up using the same email it will just recover this one and not my other account, I came on here and deleted my old account thinking it would throw him off so i could recover it, but it has not and he is still online
using my XP points that were on ther.....Is there anything i can do using this website, i have a really bad stutter so phoning would be very difficult and i cant get no one else to fone...All advice welcome and thanks for the responces.

I'm not sure but . recovering the gamertag to another console might work, I think the gamertag can only be on one console at the same time, and you need the password to recover it.

 

3 more scenarios I came up with what could have happened:

1. Somehow two different live accounts got mixed up in the Microsoft Database and got merged to one. This guy's account with my email adress.

2. It wasnt the account I had back in the years for SF4 and this guy someone misspelled his email and typed in mine and it was connected to my email adress. I searched my email account for old emails from xbox live and found some which were send to the gamertag
"FunkierGibbon56" back in 2016. This was not me either. LIke I said, I discarded all those mails all the time because I dont even own and XBOX and it just looked like spam to me. Until June 2016 the XBOX live emails were meant for "FunkierGibbon56" then after
June they started to name "".

3. Someone DID breach into my email adress somewhen in 2016 and used it to control the XBOX live account and I didnt notice it and got my account back someone (probably due to my 2-Step authentification which is turned on for years). But then how did they
got into my email account? There are no weird activities happening in my email account and never were. And I change my passwords every 6 months because like I said this email adress is an important one since 2004. So I dont think someone was able to get into
my email account.

Can a XBOX Live support please help me with this?

 

OK after even more investigation in my email account I found an email from March 20th 2016 where it asks me to confirm my email adress. I cant remember setting an account up back then, and I also cant remember clicking on the verify button.

So what could have happened was someone using my email adress to create himself an XBOX live account and somehow managing to approve it without my consent.

I was also able to see the recent logins with my email adress and they were all done from the US, somewhere near Philadelphia using the XBOX which was bound to it. I also see the IP adress.

 

So to sum up from what I know till now:

- Someone used my email address to create himself a XBOX live account on March 20th 2016

- It is not my account which I had for SF4 back 5+ years ago or perhaps it was and it was changed by the intruder (since I think I remember the name and surname)

- Who ever used it on his XBOX played from the US Philadelphia and even had a Microsoft GOLD membership for some time on it

- Who ever used it actually had no access to my email-account bound to it, or at least did not have it for long. I can't remember anything suspicious on my email account back in March 2016 and I use 2-step auth on it for years.

- There is activity on that XBOX live account, there is money on it and chatlogs and someone, who was using MY email-adress to control that XBOX account is now not having any of it.

- Why did this guy use my email address to begin with?

- And what happens now?
