explain the home console/digital sharing thing to me and where do i go in the settings to activate it

It is true that there are currently issues with the system. However, even if there weren't you may not be able to use the prepaid mastercard anyway. This is because the system is set up to auto renew a Gold membership when purchased in this fashion and
there's a chance the card may not have money on it when the renewal comes due.

I would recommend getting a Gold card from your local retailer. It is much cheaper and easier.

 

I've run into the same issue; unfortunately, aftermmuch time spent with Microsoft support, I found out that certain, if not all pre paid cards don't work with LIVE, so as onyx62is previously stated, try going to a store and buying a LIVE card that can be
redeemed for a subscription.

as long as the card is from the same region as the account then all pre pay cards will work. only if you get one from a different region will they not work.

 

McFly, we aren't talking about prepaid Gold cards, we're talking about prepaid debit cards. Prepaid debit cards are hit and miss.

 

well they would be region locked too he/she would run into the same issue as long as the cards and account regions match there should not be any issues at all.

 

There is. Microsoft request pre-authorization to charge cards, many prepaid cards don't allow pre-authorization. If the card doesn't allow pre-authorization then it can't purchase subscriptions. Some prepaid debit cards (particularly, but not necessarily
gift cards) don't have the customer's information attached to the them. If that's the case then when MS sends a request to see if the information matches the answer that comes back is "No.".
