Someone Got Inside My Account...

My account also got logged into by the same ip address on 2023-09-05

I hope everything is cool. Just wanted to say be aware of phishing scams too. Its sometimes easier to trick someone into thinking were hacked so they panic and click a fake link, that looks like the real deal, and enter all their info right over thinking they are locking it down.

Now you didnt provide details on how you were notified.

If you have not already done so, verify that it was Microsoft. If it was on email, dont contact through the email. Call Microsoft, chat with them. You go to Microsoft not they go to you.

Now if you've already verified that it was Microsoft, still, same advice. Call them.

Alright thank you also ive seen that im not the only one who has got hacked from that exactly ip like i searched the ip on google and i found a guy again on here which gave the same ip and that he also got hacked from that

It really depends whether your account was actually compromised or not.

Sometimes websites get hacked, leading to dumps of user data being made available online. That can lead to a "hacker" downloading that data and trying to use it to log into various other popular sites, like Amazon, PayPal, and Microsoft.

It's why you shouldn't use the same login details across multiple sites, because if you do, your security is only as strong as the weakest link.

But again, someone trying to log into your account and failing is not really a concern as long as your security is good. It's like someone putting the wrong key in your front door and trying to unlock it - yes, it's disconcerting that someone tried it, but at the end of the day, they never got in and can't get in. What usually happens is that they go and try their key in someone else's door.

I would do what Mauro suggested, cos there's obviously a big difference between someone trying and failing to get into your account, and someone succeeding.

Make sure that: -

1. You use a strong and unique password.

2. There is no info under your account (personal details and security settings) that you don't recognise.

3. That the advanced security info on your account is all filled out and up to date.

4. That you enable 2 factor authentication. This makes your account WAY more difficult to get into, because even if a person has your email address and password, they can't sign in without you approving their sign in attempt via your phone.

5. Generate a recovery code. This is a code that can be used to regain access to your account, should you be locked out and nothing else works. Make sure you either print it out and keep the printout somewhere secure, or you take a photo of it and keep that photo secure. Obviously, if someone gets hold of your code, they can use it to take control of your account, so it's vital you store it securely.

If nobody has gained access to your account - even if they have tried - and you do all of the above, the chances of you ever losing your account are next to nothing.
