    Some technical questions about downloads

I graduate this week, and I want to get an Xbox One, however I live at a remote place, so my internet is very slow. I have only max speed between 10 o'clock in the evening and 8 o'clock in the morning, and even then I hit 1.5-1.7 mbps at max. I was promised
a speed increase this summer, but even then I'd hit only 3.0-3.4 max. If I use the internet outside of that time window, it uses up my rather small monthly data volume, and as soon as it reaches zero, my internet gets slowed down until it can be hardly used.
From what I know the game updates for XO games tend to be rather large, so is it possible to pause the download for game updates and turn the console off, to continue the download at a later time? Or is there even an automatic download timer that permits downloads
only during a set time window? Right now, in a "good night", that means when I leave my 360 running during the whole window I can download something between 6-8ish GB.

    :)

    Technical question

Are there many consoles/computers using the internet frequently in your house? Especially when your are playing online?

If so then your internet connection can be reduced when they are all on at the same time.

Im not sure if this is what you are needing but i hope it helps.

    Technical question

    Hi all,

I'm having problems with laggy gameplay in Halo Reach.

I have followed all of the fixes listed on the Xbox Live site (opened NAT, Port Forwarding, etc).

    >

During gameplay other players SEEM to be able to move faster, be more accurate/need fewer shots for a kill (on me, even with full shields). It SEEMS that I need to shoot them 5-8 times to kill them when they have full shields.

I'm not a fantastic player, but I'm no slouch either. This happens in all game modes except Score Attack (where I am the only player).

    >

I have checked my modem, up/down speed, transfer rate etc...all ok.

There are no red rings on the console indicating any problem.

    >

    My questions are:

    1. Could there be any software problem in my console that could give these sorts of symptoms?

    2. Could there be any hardware problems in the console that would restrict the flow or processing of data that would not necessarily cause a red ring?

    >

Hopefuly there are some here who may be able to help and save me the cost (and withdrawals from having no console for a while. lol) of sending it to Micro$oft for a check-up.

    Thanks for advice.

  4. Some technical questions about downloads

Hello there Intaminator Some technical questions about downloads :)

On the Xbox One, it will tell you when there is an update for each game. You can either install it, or play offline via disconnecting from Xbox LIVE. On your speed, you should be able to do the updates in fair time between your 10pm - 8am time frame. Most
updates seem to sit at about 300mb - 500mb but there are some games that can be as large as a handful of GB updates. It really does vary.

I think you will be fine. You would just have to avoid playing a game when there was an update, or simply play it offline until you are within your favoured time frame. One thing to note, is that you should probably set the console up so that you don't download
things whilst the console sleeps. Though it does explain the process to you in good depth when you start the initial setup.

    I hope this helps.

    Many thanks,

    Cloud

Thanks for the reply. But is there an actual option to pause patch-downloads for games? Or can I just cut off the internet and it'll continue the download (without having lost the progress) when I reconnect it again?

This point is important as not doing so would invalidate the other things Cloud said.

If you set the console to Energy Saving mode, then it works with game updates exactly as the 360: when you switch it off, it's off and won't do anything by itself (not even background downloads after you switch it off), so it will only check for updates
when you start the game and then prompt you to download it (or not start the game at all). If you have it on Instant On mode (where you can use "Xbox, On") it will automatically check for updates 'at night' and then download them, including both system updates
and game updates, but you have no control over what it does or when (I think it defines 'night' as your own period of least-activity).

Your alternative is, as Cloud points out, to play offline and then the games won't require you to update, but there is the initial day-one update which has to be done for which you are required to connect the console to a network connection.

So, if I got this right, it'll pick up the downloads again, and I have nothing to worry about, right? English isn't my maternal language and I have a severe headache right now, and I can't really concentrate. But I suppose the patches will get significantly
bigger in this generation, hell, DS3 had already a 13 GB patch, and lets not get started with DLCs. The only thing I want are pausable patch downloads. Can't really remember how it worked on the 360, but I suppose it is the same.

Thanks for the response Some technical questions about downloads :)

Correct, you have nothing to worry about. You can indeed, pause the title updates (patches) for games and apps you have on your console. The only ones you cant pause are for the actual console itself (system updates).

    I hope this helps.

    Many thanks,

    Cloud

Yeah, you can hit pause download from the queue. It's pretty easily done and you can resume anytime.

System updates cannot be paused, but those are typically much smaller anyway so you would easily be able to complete those in the timeframe you were mentioning earlier.
