Solution: Xbox One can't find home WiFi

Background:

Yesterday I moved my router to another room, which forced me to use WiFi with the Xbox One instead of Ethernet cable.

It took me around 2 and a half hours to get it working. I wanted to share with you the problem and the solution for all the Googlers out there.

The problem:

The Xbox One scans for WiFi and won't find mine. It was able to find all the other WiFi networks except mine.

Using any other device, I could detect my home WiFi along with all the other WiFi networks in the area without any issues.

I tried everything. Turned off the console (5 seconds on shutdown button), restarted the router, changed the SSID of the router, changed the encryption types but nothing worked. The Xbox refused to see my network.

The solution:

Well, after using some third party software to compare my WiFi configuration to another WiFi that had the same vendor, I found out that the only difference is the channel number.

Apperantely, the Xbox One that I bought in USA filters out channel 12+13 WiFi networks without saying anything. My router (that was bought in Israel) was using channel 13 (which is illegal in north america - but not everywhere).

Anyhow, the solution was to change the channel the router was using to something less or equal to 11.

Same thing for me : Minecraft works with wifi on iPhone, not via home wifi. I can't find why!

Have you tried to the
network solution wizzard ?. can your xbox find other Wifi connections ?

You could always try an Ethernet Over Power device... I just bought one (pack of two), it's just as good as a wired connection, it uses the electrical wiring in your home as the cable. Not sure if you're aware of this type of power line device, thought I'd
share.

Actually when I wrote that I moved the router from the living room to a different room was because I didn't get a good signal of that exact Ethernet over Power device at the living room.

Something is weird with how the electric cables are placed in my house. It seems that at the living room I get a 2MB bandwidth (that doesn't work sporadically) and get a 80MB badwidth at the room that shares the same wall with the living room.

So I have decided to move the Ethernet Power device to that room and the router with it to resolve this issue.

No worries... I did some research before buying mine... You need to run the two on the same circuit, and don't run it off a powerboard. Also, if it is a piggyback type (can plug another power plug into it) try not to run a powerboard or TV through it as
you'll get interference.

 

Just use wired much better than wireless

If you can,use a wired connection ..I actually started out wireless and after giving it some more thought (and super long download times) i re worked all my modem and router setup to have the one wired and it surprised the heck out of me how much faster
its..

Doi an advanced check of your connection and compare them ..My speed tripled .

 

Always if you can use wired for gaming.

 

im having the same issue and sometimes the console send me the message that is a problem with my hardware but other times it works fine 3 days in a row. someone can help me?
