Solution Overheating

So I've been having contact with the Xbox support team via chat for about a week now, I also had a service repair ready to. Before I would send in my console I decided to have the chat one last go.

My Xbox would get really hot during gameplay, and the side fans didn't seem to do anything. Also, in "off" (Instant On-Off) the console would get warm, and, if there is a disc in the tray the disc would spin. Without any sounds indication that the console
is updating or downloading, it would get hotter by the minute.

They have suggested to unplug the power brick plug from the power strip, due to the fact that both the power strip and the brick from the console regulate the current. The console had to work overtime to get the right amount of power. On the other hand,
in "off" the console would still get a current, causing it to overheat.

I am saying all of this here in the hopes that this will become a known solution.

Again, "I have a question for you ambassadors; Is it possible to open up the xbox to clean the fan, WITHOUT BREAKING ANY RULES?"

He is asking how to , IF IT WAS OK, without voiding the warranty. And because he has been informed that, yes, the warranty will be voided, and that it is not recommended, his secondary question is now moot. Nobody in this thread has stated any tips / tricks
/ methods about cracking open the chassis.

The point is, now that is is plugged into the wall socket, the fans actually do something and the console feels less hot. For the first time I can feel the cool breeze of the side fans. Ah, sweet release.

It is overheating due to the extensive amount of work the GPU-Graphics Processor Unit has to do. To help with the over heating issue you need to have your xbox in a well ventilated area. Some things that helped me are to not put your xbox on carpet,keep
all vents open nothing blocking them, every few months take a vaccuum to the vents and get some of the dust out. Hope this was helpful.

Straight up answer: Opening it in any way is a violation of TOU and could result in a console ban.

i use something called the nyko intercooler. its 7$ and is a pair of 3 fans that clip to the outside of the xbox

Mine overheats, too. I got a $15 laptop fan, plugged it into the USB, and placed it on my Xbox. Works for me.
