    SOLUTION - Modem/Gateway + Router - Open NAT setup

    Hey guys,

    Thought I'd post this quick solution to opening NAT for users who are using a
    Modem/Gateway plus Router configuration.

    I don't believe this method has been reported anywhere in the Support Articles, so I thought I'd create my own post in the hope that it might help a few people who are having Moderate or Strict NAT issues on their Xbox One with this type of network configuration.

    As far as I'm aware, this will only work if you have an Xbox One, connected to a Router, which is then connected to a Modem or Gateway and NEITHER of the devices are in a Bridged mode.

    These are the steps to the solution;

    1) Open up both your Modem/Gateway interface and your Router interface

    2) On the Router, you want to assign your Xbox One Console a reserved IP on your network, so that the internal IP address of the console doesn't change

    3) On the Router, you then want to add the Xbox One Console's reserved IP address to the Router's DMZ

    4) On the Modem/Gateway, you want to clear the DMZ, so that there are no devices in the DMZ on the modem/gateway

    5) On the Modem/Gateway, you then want to proceed to Port Trigger the following ports;

    Port 3074 - TCP/UDP

    Port 16000 - TCP/UDP

    Port 3544 - UDP

    Port 4500 - UDP

    Port 500 - UDP

    Port 88 - UDP

    If your Modem/Gateway doesn't support Port Triggering, then Port Forwarding may also work (however, you will have to set the Internal IP Address for the Port Forward to be the Internal IP Address of your Router, NOT your Xbox One Console).

    I strongly recommend NOT Port Triggering/Forwarding Ports 53 or 80.

    6) Make sure all changes are applied and saved on both your Router and your Modem/Gateway (this may require a reboot)

    7) On your Xbox One console, go to Settings > Network > Test Multiplayer Connection

    8) Once the test is finished, DO NOT press A to continue, instead;
    Hold down Left Trigger + Right Trigger + Left Button + Right Button to bring up a more detailed networking screen.

    9) Under "Detailed NAT" it will be running a test to determine your new NAT type, so give it a minute and then it should come up with the result. If the result comes up as "Your network is behind a cone NAT" then these steps have been successful and
    you now have an Open NAT. If this isn't the result you receive, then you may be better off trying one of the methods listed in this

    Support Article
    on how to change your NAT type.

    If this method has worked for you, then please post below!

    If the method doesn't work, then feel free to post below about what errors you are still receiving, as well as a description of your network setup, so that we can try to help you diagnose your connection issues further!

    :)

    Router capable of open NAT?

    Why don't you see if BT will replce the HH3 with a HH5? You don't need the Openreach white modem then either. As far as I can see it works fine with either xbox.

    your network is behind a port-symmectric nat

    Initial diagnosis: double NAT, which prevents you from getting open NAT. Your "modem" appears to be a gateway (modem+router), which if so creates a problematic double NAT situation when combined with your router. To verify double NAT is the issue, please
    log in to the web interface of your router and note the WAN/Internet IP it reports (WAN IP, not the LAN IP!). If that IP differs from the one reported by
    Trace My IP | IP Address Tracker | IP Tracer | Computer Hardware IP Visitor Location, then your Xbox is behind multiple layers of NAT (double NAT) and getting open NAT will require special steps.

    Basically, you have 3 options. One, you can put the gateway in bridge mode. Google the model of your gateway plus the words "bridge mode" and you will probably find instructions--e.g.

    www.dslreports.com/.../r27068740-Modem-D-Link-DIR655-and-motorola-netopia-3360-modem-setup-prob

    forums.xbox.com/.../392531.aspx

    Once you do that, if you have DSL, you will need to configure your router to perform the DSL login (via PPPoE etc.) using the login/password from your ISP. Otherwise, you will not have Internet access. If you have cable, you should be good to go. Once
    routing has been disabled on the gateway, use your router to forward ports via UPnP, manually, etc.

    Two, as an alternative to placing the gateway in bridge mode, which can be complex for the inexperienced, you can try putting the WAN IP of your router in the DMZ on the gateway then use your router to forward ports via UPnP, manually, etc.

    Three, you can get rid of the gateway and replace it with a modem-only device instead.

    The Xbox support site actually has a decent guide for NAT problems:

    This method worked but in call of duty advanced warfare I still have a moderate nat. Do I need to open ports for that game as well?

    Hey Bulls3y3Bobby,

    Could you try force quitting the game (By pressing the menu button and then selecting 'Quit'), and then reopening it? See if that changes your game NAT to the same as your console NAT.

    If that doesn't work, try power cycling your console using the
    method listed here
    and then reopen the game and see if that's changed your game NAT to the same as your console NAT.

    If neither of those work, come back and post here and I'll try to help you further diagnose the issue.

    Ok Bulls3y3Bobby,

    Are you able to join games and parties or start your own without a problem? It may just be that your game is having issues detecting the NAT type on your console. You could also try enabled port 53 for TCP/UDP on your modem, but only do this if entirely
    necessary.

  7. I haven't tried joining a game yet but I can start my own party no problem. So should I really worry about the moderate NAT in call of duty:AW

    SOLUTION - Modem/Gateway + Router - Open NAT setup

    If you're able to join games and parties, as well as create your own, without any hassles - then you shouldn't have to worry too much! However, it'd still be nice to get this resolved for you, just to be on the safe side.

    Could you try also Port Trigerring/Forwarding the following ports;

    Port 3075 - TCP/UDP

    Port 3076 - TCP/UDP

    Port 30 - TCP

    Again, let me know if the above solution doesn't work and I'll keep trying to figure this one out for you! It seems strange that your game is showing a different NAT type to your console. Do you have more than one console in the house? If so, are they both
    online at the same time?

  9. I'm kinda afraid of adding those ports because I accidentally added ports 53 and 80 because I didn't notice it and it put my Xbox's nat back to moderate. I had to repeatedly factory reset the gateway and router in order to get it back to "open" again. Are
    you certain adding ports 3075,3076,and 30 won't give me moderate NAT again? Also why can't I add 53 and 80?

  10. UPDATE: I added 3075,3076,and 30 and it gave me moderate NAT and still did not fix call of duty aw's nat but when I deleted port 30 i got open nat on the Xbox one again what should I do @ this point?

    Let me just add to this method a bit here... If you are able to bridge your modem instead, then that is obviously preferable. However, I understand that some people are in the situation I'm in, where they are unable to bridge their modem (due to various
    different reasons). If you already have the setup described above and are unable to bridge your modem - this is the solution for you. Otherwise, try bridging your modem first, as that is the most preferable technique.

  15. So if it works via port forwarding and bridging the modem and it works. What I'd factory reset the modem and just bridge it wil I achieve the same results?
