Solution: Fix downloading games and contents restarts/reloops at 79%

That's right there are some good steps there. This occurs at times because there may be a slight glitch in the system so if you reset it, that should help.

1. Remove profile - SETTINGS page (far right from home page), select STORAGE, then find your profile and remove.

2. While in your hard drive under GAMES & APPS look for any red or yellow icons with incomplete or unknown. Delete them. (This may include the game you are trying to fix)

3. Clear System Cache - SETTINGS page, select STORAGE and highlight a drive but don't select it. Press Y and select Clear System Cache. Agree when asked.

4. Be Patient - turn your console off for a full minute. This assists in resetting the console.

5. Turn on the console and download your profile - it is the icon next to 'create a profile'.

Try again. If it is still an issue repeat the steps but at Step 2 delete the troublesome game and complete the steps with the following.

6. Go to SETTINGS page & select ACCOUNT

7. Got to DOWNLOAD HISTORY and find the game/DLC you wanted. The most recent are first.

8. Select the item and then select DOWNLOAD AGAIN. This should fix the issue.

Solution: Fix downloading Games and contents restarts/reloops at 79%

Whatz gud Xbox community! I had an issue trying to download this months (November) games with gold - Dirt3. Whenever the download got to 79% it would restart again from 0% and create a corrupt file in the games folder.

The information from the web wasn't really useful, so decided to hook up a solution which worked for me and hopefully should help anyone whose going through the same issue.

I'd start by mentioning a few thangs:

1) Got the xbox slim in South Africa and have been in South Africa the whole time, so haven't changed my locale at any point and time.

2) I get no error message while downloading (just gets to 79% and restarts from 0%)

Solution:

1) Delete corrupted file on storage device

2) Delete cache (Market place and System)

3) Move profile to a formatted USB storage (with adequate space for download)

4) Disconnect xbox HDD (if possible)

5) Only connect recently formatted USB with xbox live profile and delete system cache

6) Go to download history and download game/content again (inda USB storage)

7) Move the game/content to your regular HDD

8) Enjoi....

Hey! Not the same game but I’m having the same problem with downloading Mass Effect with Xbox Live. 79% and then it restarts. Apparently this problem, with people reaching exactly 79% before it restarts, has been happening to a lot of Xbox owners, especially
360 owners, since quarantine started. A few people have reported that Xbox has acknowledged the problem and said they’d fix it, but it’s still very frustrating.

I tried deleting the game content from had and tried downloading again. The download stopped always at 79% with error 'can't download game'.

please help!

I am having similar issue with downloading Halo: Reach Demo. After downloading 79% percent the message appears "Can't download Halo: Reach Demo" and download is terminated. If I restart it (by choosing "Download again") it seems to continue with the download
from 78% and at 79% it quits again.

I have tried to add it to the queue from web interface and from console, it has the same effect. I have also deleted the downloaded content on xbox and redownloaded from scratch and again got stuck at 79%.

Interesting point is that web (and xbox) shows that the demo has 1.74 GB and when I was deleting the local downloaded content (which was supposed to be 79% of the data) the xbox showed me 1.8 GB allocated on local hard drive.

So I wonder if there could be some mismatch between the data sizes and that is why it is always cut at the same place.
