    Solitaire Collection Crashes

I have had repeated crashes with is app on both Windows 8 and 8.1 Update 1 computers. The computers are well maintained, sfc/ /scannow repoprts no problems.

    Here is a sample:

    Faulting Application Path: C:\Program Files\WindowsApps\Microsoft.MicrosoftSolitaireCollection_2.3.1407.252_x86__8wekyb3d8bbwe\Solitaire.exe

    Problem signature

    Bucket ID: 66682fccb6f465bfe48e1a2e0f10ec67 (98845356360)

I have carried out the usual remedies suggested by the MVPs. Solitaire collection crashes randomly, often just after the start up screen has been selected. I don't have this problem with any of the other apps from the Windows store. Please advise. Thank
    you.

    :)

    Solitaire Collection Crashes

    Hello YellowishBag163,

Thank you for the report, I forwarded it to one of our testers and here's what she found. "Combase.dll is causing the app to crash- not the app itself. Basically sometime during his play, the app is calling that library and the library itself is corrupted
in some way. If he’s tech savvy and has Virtual Studio, he can debug the app using it and tell us exactly which call failed to combase.dll and this may help him diagnose what’s wrong with it. If he’s already tried doing a full uninstall, restart, reinstall
then he needs to try to do a “Refresh but keep all my files” from the Windows Update menu. This will also solve any other issues he may be having with other games or apps."

You mentioned that you had already carried out the usual remedies, so I'm thinking you have already tried the uninstall/restart/reinstall, but if you haven't, please give that a try first. Otherwise, the "Refresh but keep all my files" sounds like the way
    to go.

    Thank you,

My sincere thanks for your reply. It is much appreciated.

My problem appears to be fairly common. The various news groups show several instances over a long period. Maybe this is why this app has a score of 3.6?

It is more likely to occur on the Windows 8,1 Update 1 computer than on the Windows 8 computer.

The app crash usually occurs when button is pressed at the beginning of the solitaire games collection, before any ads appear.

I have tried uninstalling and re installing the solitaire collection. The app crash still occurs randomly, but is more common on the 8.1 Update 1 computer.

I have done a refresh on both computers one before and after the 8.1 Update 1 installation. The app crash still occurs.

For obvious reasons on work computers, I don't want to do a reset! Maybe if it was anything other than a game app.

No other apps have this problem. There are several installed form the store.

I do not have Virtual Studio.

    Best wishes,

    YellowishBag 163

I have now checked 6 other Windows 8/8.1/8.1 update computers. All of them have the Solitaire Collection installed. 4 of the 6 show the same problem, namely the app crash in my original post. Please fix this problem!

    Solitaire Collection Crashes

    Hello all,

At this time, it appears that this is a specific issue for some users' systems that is due to a problem that is unrelated to the game itself, but we are investigating all the same. There are two additional things we would like for you to verify/try in order
to fix the combase.dll issue you're both having.

The first is to check a specific setting that could be interfering with updates. Under PC Settings, then Devices (for Windows 8) or Network (for Windows 8.1), please make certain that "download over metered connections" is set to ON. The reason is that the
operating system will try to auto identify whether a connection is metered or not and sometimes it will automatically set this option to OFF, in which case not only Windows Updates, but apps and app updates may all fail to download.

Once you've determined that this setting is correct. Let's try a refreshed install of the game in order to try and clean up the combase.dll issue. Make certain to launch the game at least once and let it connect to Xbox Live so that your stats are saved.
Once everything is saved, close the game and uninstall the game and then restart your system by selecting the “Restart” option from the shutdown menu. Once you’re back up and running, press the Windows Key+R and type wsreset.exe in the dialog box and press
Enter. This will refresh and re-open the Windows Store app and you can reinstall the game.

Please let us know how this goes for you as we continue to look at the issue on our end as well.

    Thanks again,

Thanks for the possible fix, but after following your directions my result is the same with Microsoft Solitaire Collection working fine and Star Club crashing back to start screen. Is there a way to replace just the combase.dll file? Your help is greatly
    appreciated. Thank you.

Also performed fix as suggested above, but ended up with same "no-go" result. Solitaire Collection apps (all three) will not open if you click on the icons from the Start screen. Interestiingly enough, you can get the collection to work if you go to the
xbox store, search for the solitaire collection, and sign in to xbox. Everything is displayed just as you expect, but once you reboot, the problem is back again. The games play fine, you just can't start them from the Start screen.
