there free to play game ive been playing on pc befor i got a xbox try to play them on it and i need gold to play them online lol that sad ill just play them on pc way have to pay if there free to play so you never own your xbox you got pay to use it so sad

Xbox One X with 3 games for $499.99 expiring in a couple of hours. Worth the upgrade?

I am obviously not making myself clear. Sea Of Thieves is only online. Therefore, it's locked behind a paywall. If I buy Sea Of Thieves, I also need to purchase Gold in order to play it. I have to make 2 purchases. Gears, Halo and Forza have modes that are single player or splitscreen multiplayer that do not require online and therefore, are not locked behind a paywall. The whole Gears and Halo campaigns do not require you to pay for gold.

Online play on PS4 and Xbox One are locked behind a paywall. Most games anyway. I can play Fortnite and some other games against people online for free on PS4. No Gold or PS+ required. I am sure Xbox One has free to play online games too but I am not aware of any. The whole notion of it takes money to have servers so you can play online is not accurate because of games I just mentioned like Fortnite having free online play. Also, PC is free and so is Nintendo(until Sept anyway when they start charging $20 for online play on Switch but 3DS and Wii U remain free) Sony had it perfect last gen. Free online and the option to pay for random game rentals and discounts. So yes, M$ and Sony have paywalls for online play. You have to buy a game AND pay extra to unlock the online multiplayer(content) that is already on the game you just bought. FACT.

Also, quite typing free games. Unless you are only referring to Xbox 360 games that is. The Xbox One games with Gold every month are not free. Once you stop paying for Gold, those games become inaccessible. The 360 games are truly free.Click to expand...

You should start running your own servers for such things. Let me know when you figure out how much it costs. Then you might understand a little better why these are paid services and not free ones.

Gold is what allows you to play online.

Game Pass is like Netflix for games. You get access to a library of games you can play from. You do need Gold if you want to play online in those games.

Game Pass Ultimate is a bundle subscription of those.

So if your son is looking to play online, he would need Gold. If he's only playing games he owns, he would not need Game Pass.

You do get Games with Gold games each month which are 4 free games (2 360 and 2 Xbox One). The free One games require that you keep Gold in order to play them for free. There are new games each month, but once you've claimed them you can play them at any
time as long as you still have Gold.

Forza 7 can be played without Gold. If he had downloaded it through Game Pass, that may be why it's asking for a subscription though.

Playing online has never been free. Even if you play F2P games like Apex Legends, you will need a paid subscription (Xbox Live Gold or Xbox Game Pass Ultimate)

Xbox Live Gold is now Game Pass Core. Game Pass Core or Ultimate is required for online play on console.

You have to pay to play online on console as it costs money to run the online servers. Consoles are typically sold at a loss too, so in return for a cheaper device, you pay a subscription fee if you want to play online.

There are no plans to make online play free at this time, however Game Pass is not required for free-to-play multiplayer games such as Fortnite.

To play online you need Xbox live GOLD. If you have the free account or the Xbox live silver account then you can't play online. So I'm sorry but you're going to have to pay for Xbox live Gold in order to play online. I hope this helped!
