So you can't play a game until you install the game?

Im trying to play a game I just got and every time I try to access it it tells me to install it. ???

Improved Install Times

Ive had games take 10 to 20 minutes on my X1 and Thief was just under 4 hours...... It says you can play now, but it would never let me until the full install had been completed.

The PS4 does let you play within a minute or so, however it wont let you play online until the full install has occurred.

I really wouldn't base your console choice on install times.....

 

Questions over Backwards Compatibility

it will work like this...

insert 360 game disc into the XB1, install game.. play ganme

or

Open your games library and see all the digital 360 games you purchased... install game.. play game

or wait until the store has a 360 games tab, open it and purchase a 360 game, play game

 

Yep, all games need to be installed.

 

Depends on the game, I popped in the Tomb Raider disc and it let me start just after a few minutes.

 

That is insane. This one game is 35gb. So I can play 9/10 games? Not sure I like this.

 

That's the way things are headed. The days of being able to pop a disc into a console and play it right out of the box are pretty much over.

 

DD... ALL games on the XB1 need to be installed..... ALL as in EVERY ONE... but wit the the neg gen consoles you are able to start playing after a few minutes...and do not need to wait for 100% install

 

Its a one time install and you don't have to wait for the install to finish, you can start playing after a few minutes depending on the game.

 

That's the way the system was designed. Games run better off the HD.

 

I actually like the idea of installing the games. It just seems like the hard drive would have been a 750gb or a TB to accommodate all these games. Oh well.

 

If you have slow internet, disconnect your X1 from it. Install the game from the disc then re-hook up the internet. The X1 will try and download patches/updates as it installs if it is connected to the internet. It took about 3 hours before I could play
Forza 5 on my girlfriends 1.5Mbs connection (6Gb patch.) and about a full day before the game was completely installed. On my connection is was maybe 20 minutes before I could play the game.

One of the questions I took from the Ambassador chat was from a mother that was trying to get D.R.3 playing for her kids. When we figured out she was trying to install with a 3G cell phone using it as a hotspot (.324Mbs download.), it became obvious it would
take a couple days.

I agree. The HD should have been 1 gig considering the size of the installs.

 

The size of the drive doesn't matter that much. MS has said external drive support is coming. Once it's here just add an external drive to the console.
