So... Yeah... Sea Of Thieves... Is It As Bad As I Think It Is Gonna Be?

I was saying I didn’t know what you were talking about when you said upcoming games looked bad or whatever.

Sorry for not being clear then. I just meant there's not many exclusives I'm interested in, mainly 3rd party games I'm looking forward for like Far Cry 5, Red Redemption 2, Vampyr.

Well you technically wont own it if i got the subscription. soon as it needed renewing.... Where as make a one off payment and the disc is yours you own the disc game unlike digital content. The cost of living is expensive in nz cause all manufacturers overcharge
in the nz market even after currency conversion and GST. Gamescsubscription is nz$10.99/month.

So... Yeah... Sea Of Thieves... Is It As Bad As I Think It Is Gonna Be?

    Easy way to answer this.

If your playing solo, don't bother.

If your playing with friends then get it now as its a blast in co-op.

  5. This. I've played it both solo, with the wife and with a full 4 person crew. It's by far, much more fun when you have others to share the shenanigans.

Everyone says it's great with a crew, but literally everyone I know says it gets old after just a few hours. There is no content. How on earth they can only have 1 enemy type and think that is acceptable is beyond me. In my opinion, it's so scarce on content
it's actually shocking that they are charging full price. It should be 20 or 30 bucks.

Although this is true I have had fun playing this on my own and I've seen streamers do the same. I love to try and sneak onto someones galleon and either hide until they see me (the panic it courses is funny) or try and steal their treasure, even just getting
into a fight is quite fun.

It is a game that requires the player to create their own fun, so I can see why it's not for everyone.

So... Yeah... Sea Of Thieves... Is It As Bad As I Think It Is Gonna Be?

DWoodbine, why is there not a badge declaring you Xbox Ambassador? So... Yeah... Sea Of Thieves... Is It As Bad As I Think It Is Gonna Be? :p

I've tried to remain impartial, but everytime you try to VALUE ADD to the equation of Sea of Thieves, all I'm seeing is apologia (yep, that's a word) for very lazy game design! The difference between triple-A releases that encourage or embolden the player
(see: Far Cry 5) and paint-by-numbers multiplayer choose your own adventure that simply gifts you a fancy waterworld that looks its best on Xbox One X, is the fact that players (or consumers) are continually being shafted by big corporations.

Why create your own fun when you've PAID to see more? I've paid the big bucks for an open world that responds to my every whim. Why should I get lost at sea when there's a sea of possibility waiting for me after taking the plunge on a known and proven franchise?
As they say, "time is money", and I've spent a LOT of money on Far Cry throughout the years. Not even the lure of a new IP will sway me from the tried and true. Am I missing out on *something*? Possibly. But I sure don't feel like I've missed the BOAT (haha,
I'll get my coat). So... Yeah... Sea Of Thieves... Is It As Bad As I Think It Is Gonna Be? :D

Just giving my opinion, sorry it doesn't match up with yours.

When this game was first announced I wasn't sold on it, but after playing the beta and now the full game I can just see how it can be fun. It being pricey and a bit empty is all valid and honest reasons and I can't argue with that. Creating your own fun
is basically what you have to do with any game anyway.

  10. Pricey and lacking in content I can also agree with, but the way I see it... it's a new IP. Obviously, the way gamers are expecting to be spoon fed their experiences in an almost calculated and exacting way nowadays, any IP that wants to do something a bit
different is taking a risk. Taking that into consideration, I can understand why they'd 'hold back' a bit on content until they actually see what people like and dislike about the game and use that info to help mold what they have planned next. In that aspect,
I'm not one to condemn a new IP from the get-go, based on limited content and I find it short sighted to do so.

I can agree with creating your own fun being something that you have to do with any game. If I had to have my fun spoon fed to me, I'd wonder if I was gaming for the right reason to begin with.

  11. Sea of Thieves isn't a game for me simply down to it really requiring you to play with friends. With the hours I work I rarely do get to game with them and so I'd be going solo, multiplayer games I've found are rarely fun on your own and randoms these days
seam to be nothing more than bile spewing idiots.

However I must say, and I know I'm contradicting myself a little here, I find one complaint rather odd about the game. Other players are annoying. Surely players in a game about pirates are supposed to be annoying, they are pirates after all.

  12. You seem to be in the same vicious cycle I've found myself in quite often. Friends either aren't online to play at the same time or something and it's become more difficult to find decent people when you do try to meet them in a game.

I've heard it said before and it bears repeating (even if I don't like it)... It isn't called Sea of Friends. You're a pirate. You're more likely to run into hostile encounters than friendly ones. Anyone who isn't prepared to accept that reality of the game
shouldn't play it and then whine that other players are annoying.

That being said, It's the other players that keep the game from "getting old" quickly. Last night we had multiple annoyances... (lol) err... encounters. Some decided to have a go at us, others were sighted in the distance as we sailed about and had us keeping
a watchful eye on them and our ship. There's a lot more strategy involved when you know there are others in the area. Do we keep going after more loot... and hope they haven't seen us or just aren't bothering with us... or do we just grab a
little at a time and head for an outpost to sell it off before they come after us? How close are they? Are they closing on us... or are they just doing their own thing?

Last night had us asking all of those questions and more. And we asked them more than a time or two. Cat and mouse at its 'Ye Salty Dog'iest... lol. The wife said it's stressful with a lot of other ships in the area, but it's also more rewarding.
It made our nightly 'end of gaming session' tradition of going to the nearest outpost tavern and drinking until we all puke all over each other, that much more relaxing. Yeah... I know... but somehow it's both disgusting and hilarious at the same time. You
just have to be there I guess. Well, if you do find yourself there, best to keep your distance.

So... Yeah... Sea Of Thieves... Is It As Bad As I Think It Is Gonna Be?

Well then you missed my point. Yes other players can be annoying in multiplayer games, but they cannot grief you in all of those games. SoT allows them to grief you thebsame way they do in DS. That’s not fun to a lot of people and it’s definitely not the
    norm in multiplayer games.

I tried it for the first time two nights ago.

And people complain about how games like The Sims 4, etc, aren't multiplayer, when we have people here who complain how a game has no single player/campaign.

First thing I saw about the game is the graphics and the music. I'd give the game 6.9/10. It would be great to have a single player component. There is an option currently in the game to play some portions of the game by 'going at it alone'. Otherwise the
graphics in the game are like a 9/10.

I've played heaps of multiplayer on Xbox 360 and Xbox One. To me I find the people on Xbox One multipayer Minecraft LESS fun than on Xbox 360. There's like too many split screeners or too many people with less than 1,000 Gamerscore
cause of this Home console policy they have and then people just create multiple accounts or something. I still prefer some of Xbox 360's policies like you must have Gold to join parties and play multiplayer.

  15. Either the griefing is a lot less commonplace than you've been lead to believe, or I'm one of the luckiest pirates to play the game. I didn't get to play it the first night of release, but have been on every night since and have only run into 1 gaming session
in which I might say it felt like we were being 'griefed'.

We were docked at an outpost, had already sold our loot and were approached by another pair of pirates in a sloop that had been dogging us for a bit. And no, them dogging us isn't griefing IMO... they're pirates... they wanted to take whatever we had onboard.
They had one navigating the sloop and the other would drop into the water and try to board our galleon. He even got aboard a few times and became a PITA by running around, dropping our anchor (had it raised so we could turn to keep their sloop in cannon range).
He managed to kill a few of us, but we managed to get him every time he did get aboard. He was running all over the ship... and TBH... it's quite possible that he was trying to find out if we'd had time to sell our loot before they got to us, or if it was
still stashed onboard somewhere. They eventually gave up and moved on. I'll err on the side of griefing simply because it kind of felt like that and we had nothing of value aboard.

So there you have it from my personal experience. In a little over a week of playing about 4 hours each night... and one griefing session. And TBPH, there are a few things we could've done to end that griefing session a lot sooner but one of my crew wasn't
too happy with them dogging us, so he decided he wanted to make a war of attrition out of it.
