    This easily resolved problem of backwards compatibility is always something that console programmers seemingly can’t solve and reproduce!. Microsoft & Xbox, add one additional line of prompt to the user that can specify downloads and downloading the Xbox One previous game code onto external hard drive, so that the Xbox Series X or Xbox Series S community without yet purchased an external expansion card and are still using old external hard drives [HDD].

    It'll be backwards compatible with the Series X/S. So you won't have to purchase the cross-gen edition unless you want the Series X/S version.

    You have names mixed up. There are no consoles named the Xbox One Series S or Xbox One Series X.

    The Xbox One/One S/One X all have a disc drive.

    The Xbox One S All Digital Edition does not have a disc drive.

    The Xbox Series X has a disc drive.

    The Xbox Series S does not have a disc drive.

    All the consoles can play backward compatible games. The Series S and One S all digital edition can only play games digitally downloaded.

    The other consoles can play games from disc and from digitally downloaded,

    I hope this clears things up for you.

    Skyrim Legendary edition isn't recognised by Series X console

    I totally understand, however, the game has its own version that can be played on Xbox One or Xbox Series X|S and the 360 version game is not backward-compatible, even if we want to it is not designed to be played on the Xbox Series X|S console.
