So Windows 10

@Smileskybird: Actually the Xbox One has three operating systems. There is the bespoke 'Xbox One OS' a Windows based OS and a third OS that, as I understand it, links the other two together.

Microsoft decided not to call it Windows 9 because of some of the negativity it got from Windows 8. I personally have had no problem with Windows 8, despite having no Start Menu. It has been fine with pretty much all of my old software and all of my PC game
collection.

Getting a virus on an Xbox 360 is pretty much impossible, the same is true for the Xbox One too.

 

I wonder if this is just a small link in cross-compatible gaming? One OS to game on your PC or Xbox. Not saying this is going to give us that, just wondering if the current gaming market is trending toward in this direction. You buy a game once and play
it either on an Xbox or PC. It would be interesting, maybe scary, if the future of gaming is invested in OS' rather than physical hardware.

 

Xbox One games run on the bespoke Xbox One OS not in Windows. You won't be able to buy a typical PC game and download it on your console. It won't work like that. However, we could get to see Windows 8/10 apps and games that are available via the Windows
Store also running on the Xbox One platform.

 

Right, I know currently, or with Windows 10, you will not purchase one game and play on either pc or xbox. However, with the merging (though they run separately) of OS', is this a possibility in the future? If so, then a market dominated by OS's would be
interesting. For example: You buy a "console" and choose the OSlaystation, Xbox, Steam, Nintendo. Boy, that sounds stupid when typed "aloud".

 

Or it would be one service you subscribe to and lets you play your games on PC or Xbox... Service based gaming looks to be where the market is headed...

Too bad though i like the current model

 

I hope they wait awhile for service based gaming. I'm out in the woods with a satellite internet connection. I use verzion home fusion for gaming, but I depend on physical media for actual game purchase.

Well, that's cool and all that, but I don't want to see more garbage games and apps like many of those so-called "indie" games or one-use advertising apps on the Xbox 360 that had next to no quality whatsoever. I want something that's going to look nice,
work properly, and have a good reason for existing.

 

I hope its not heavy on resources

What does Win 10 have in commen with the X1 ?

 

There is a Win 9 and it was just confirmed 3 days ago it would be free to Win 8 users after many months of rumors that it would be the case.

As a PC gamer I hope that Steam OS/Linux will finally put an end to me ever needing to deal with a Win OS's again. Suffered enough through Vista and 8.

It's even on Wikipedia Windows 10. Google couldn't find it (or wasn't looking hard enough). I went to Windows and in the Wikipedia article there was a link to Windows 10. It looks like it won't release until late next year. What many dislike about Windows
8 is the UI pretty much the same thing for Xbox 1's UI. With Windows 10 it brings back a UI which looks more like Windows 7 you can change the background. Changing the Dash background is an Xbox Live Feature that Xbox 360 has as well as Windows 8.1. I still
think consoles like Xbox need their own special OS. Xbox 1 officially has 3 operating systems. PC's are prone to virus/malware attacks which is why M has a Firewall in it's line of Windows OS and that it's wise to have additional internet security software.
My AVG software detects malware and malicious activity which goes unnoticed by my up to date Windows 7 Service Pack 1 OS PC. Such online attacks have been unheard of on Xbox 360 and Xbox 1. This is because Xbox is a console has a tailored OS which best suites
a console.
